Okay, so I was reading Ms. Perception's Objective series on FF.net (go read - very funny!), and this whole idea of the Glee kids growing up and a group of them being in "family" after high school in New York...so, the plot bunnies sat up and took notice.
Now, this is not really a good thing because I need certain bunnies active right now (Big Bangs and Secret Santas), but the others need to be asleep. In the interest of trying to keep them appeased, I started jotting down some notes.
Under the cut, you will find a lot of exposition on a future AU idea that I just might have to do something with one of these days...hopefully after 2012 starts. I'd really love to know if anybody would be interested in reading stories (probably a collection of one-shots) in this universe. Let me know, huh?
In the interest of full disclosure, this will probably not be friendly for Finn lovers, and I'm still not sure my opinion of how Mercedes or Mr. Schue fit in...good, bad, or at all.
The place had once been owned by some well-to-do family. When the last owners went into bankruptcy, Quinn's mom bought it and let Puck redesign it. She paid for the changes, and he managed to do some greath things on a shoestring. She had not really cared about cost. The changes would allow her daughter to have a private apartment, but be surrounded by friends. She would be safer than in some strange place. If her mother could count on anything, it was the fact that this tight-knit group would do whatever it took to keep everyone happy and healthy.
When Puck finished, there were six three-bedroom apartments, each with a small kitchenette, combined living/dining area, and two full baths. Each of the bedrooms had great windows, and the master of each apartment had a balcony overlooking the New York City skyline. Three of the apartments took up the fourth floor of the building while the other three were on the third floor. Given that this was still a private residence, they had decided to make the first two floors into common areas. The second floor included the "family" stuff - like a gameroom, media room, music room, and several practice studios. Remembering how loud practices could be, Puck had made sure to make those soundproof. There was also a full kitchen and dining room for the informal family meals. The first floor hld all the formal spaces for entertaining "outsiders" as well as Puck's office.
Noah Puckerman had flourished in college. The more relaxed structure of the school had fit him better than the prison of public education. Almost by accident, he had ended up taking an architectural class, and the teacher had found a hidden genius. Puck had a knack for taking old buildings and revamping them, bringing in modern conveniences and luxuries without losing their original decor or charm. A mere handful of years later, and he had become the most sought after architect in the city.
He shared one of the fourth floor apartments with Sam Evans. The two McKinley graduates had chosen to be roomates at the dorm in NYU, and it seemed natural to continue after graduation. While Puck had gone into architecture, Sam had discovered a talent for noticing details and adding up clues. He had helped find a rapist while still in college, and the detectives had been so impressed that they offered to recommend him to the Academy. Although he still attended classes in the hopes of switching to the crime lab, he also worked the streets as one of New York's finest.
Their next-door-neighbor was Quinn Fabray. The former Cheerios captain had mellowed during their senior year. She still planned to be queen of the school, but she had adopted the entire Glee club under her protection. No matter what fight might be going on inside the choir room, she shot down any outsider who tried to take advantage of the argument. Heck, even Sue Sylvester walked quietly around "Mama Bear" Fabray after her best cheer captain had led the Cheerios on a "sit-in" protest after an attempted coup by the driven coach. Now, Quinn focused her protective instincts on the family inside the house. She had come to New York to attend college and joined Rachel in the pursuit of Broadway. The two of them were the rising stars of 42nd street.
Rachel Berry had graduated high school and set out for the city as expected. While attending NYU with the others, she had come to the attention of some talent scouts. The once under-appreciated brunette had paid her way through college on the modelling career that had sparked. She had become the toast of the fashion world. Even her desire to finish school and go to Broadway had endeared her to the public. They loved the Cinderella story of the small town girl who made it big but stuck to her dreams. Probably her most popular article (also her personal favorite) had showcased the "real" Rachel Berry as a regular college student living in a dorm like everyone else. She had framed a copy of her favorite photo. It showed her with her roommate, jumping and singing into their hairbrushes just like she used to do back in Lima. She (& her roommate) had been the first ones to move into the house when Puck had finished it. They lived in the last of the fourth floor apartments.
In one of those whimsical notions of fate, a miracle had happened just before their senior year of high school with a little help from Puck. Rachel had become friends with Santana Lopez. Most of McKinley High had frozen in shock when the two girls came in on their first day, laughing and joking together. At lunch, Santana had found the need to make a public declaration - basically informing the whole school of the retribution she would rain down on anyone who tried to hurt and/or humiliate Rachel. The two of them had ruled the school that year. They had become best friends, then roommates in college. They could be counted on to make life interesting. Being two strong personalities, both had no problem in letting their tempers flare. There had been some intense knock-down, drag-out fights that ended with one in Quinn's guest room and the other on Puck and Sam's couch. When their friends asked them about their empty apartment, both of them had said they had promised to never let the sun set on their anger in their own space. The boys had traded confused glances while all the girls had nodded in understanding. Santana had found an outlet for her aggressive personality in pursuing a law degree. She had her eyes set on the District Attorney's office, and they had already expressed interest in the driven and intense young law student.
The third floor apartments were also filled by old Glee clubbers.
Brittany and Artie had gotten married and lived in the space under Rachel and Santana. While Artie still enjoyed jamming with his housemates, he had chosen a quieter career path. Although still stuck in his wheelchair, he had gone further than any of them in his imagination. He was now a rather famous author in the fantasy genre. His popular series focused on a ragtag group of outcasts turned heroes who went about saving the world despite personal problems and constant arguing. Brittany had been spotted by the same talent scouts as Rachel, and she had chosen to continue modeling as well as running dance classes and coaching cheerleading at a nearby high school. They were expecting their first baby in the next few weeks, and it was a sign of her popularity as a model that two of the world’s most sought-after designers now had maternity lines.
Mike and Tina had gotten married straight out of high school, and started college in Ohio. However, Mike had been spotted at a dancing competition and offered a scholarship to Julliard if he could make it in. He did. Now, he is working to get his master’s at Julliard while performing as a dancer on Broadway. One day he’s planning on teaching at the school. Tina discovered a love for art. She has quickly become a rising star in the circle of art critics. She’s written two best-selling books on the subject, helping bring art to the average person on the street. She wrote the books during each of her pregnancies. She and Mike are the parents of twin four-year-old girls, Bethany and Maria, and a six-month-old baby boy, Erik. Bethany is the god-daughter of Puck and Quinn; Maria is the god-daughter of Artie and Santana; Erik is the god-son of Sam and Rachel. Their apartment is beneath Puck and Sam’s.
Blaine and Kurt are still an item and they are in the place under Quinn. Blaine chose to pursue a career in teaching music. He teaches at the same school as Brittany, so they often carpool. His enthusiasm and fun attitude have made the Glee club he runs the place to be. Much like New Directions, he has a mix of the outcast and the popular. He has high hopes of one year having a group that turns out like his housemates. Kurt has taken the fashion world by storm, but not as a model. Thanks to his constant desire to see his “family” dressed fabulously, his designs have made it into the world of high fashion. Rachel, Quinn, and Brittany have all been to award ceremonies in his designs, and even the guys have allowed him to design some of their outfits as he has grown out of his teenage desire to put feathers and sequins on everything.
So, what do you think???
