Fan Fiction Rant
Okay, this is a complaint, so please ignore/skip over/roll your eyes and don't read if you don't want too! It has to do with fan fiction and the pairings therein.
Okay, and I fully admit this is probably just me, but I'm really, really desperate for some more good quality, longer length GEN fic!
Everywhere I turn I am getting bombarded with slash/femslash fic. If thats your thing, great! However, it is not mine, and maybe I'm looking in the wrong places, but my favorite fandoms seem to be inundated with it. Now to be fair, I am also not much into the het scene either. I like pairings, and I prefer het pairings as a personal preference, but I really love the fics that explore the relationships between people that do not require sex to constantly crop up!
Sex is a part of life, I get that, and I understand that, but the characters don't constantly have to be going at it like bunnies! Lust is not love, though it doesn't hurt to be a part of it, but you'd think these characters were all shallow, uninvolved get-in, get-some, get-out types.
We have some fabulously talented writers out there, and I'd love to see some further explorations of the bonds between people that don't suddenly require characters to switch orientations just to fit a mindset. (And I mean switching from straight to gay/lesbian/bi AND vice versa!) Sometimes, close friends are just that...friends. They don't have to become lovers to make a good, catching story.
I LOVE stories that show an intense connection, a deep understanding between the characters...soul-bonded, life-bonded, etc, but I'd love to see people able to explore them without sex HAVING to become part of it.
Fandoms that really seem to be inundated? The Sentinel, the Magnificent Seven, Lord of the Rings.
If you have any recommendations that would fit my desires, please, please let me know!
