I KNOW that I'm about a week behind on reading here on LJ. I am also about a week behind on everything else, but I had to do some looking up and post some stuff. Some/many of you may have already read all of this. If so, please note sentence 1 and 2 in this post.
I don’t know what many of you think about this whole political thing going on in the US right now, but I feel compelled to send a few links and some information over the net about the newest VP candidate, Sarah Palin. I’m not even going to touch “Troopergate.”

This TIME article brings to light an interesting incident. “Stein (former mayor) says that as mayor, Palin continued to inject religious beliefs into her policy at times. "She asked the library how she could go about banning books," he says, because some voters thought they had inappropriate language in them. "The librarian was aghast." That woman, Mary Ellen Baker, couldn't be reached for comment, but news reports from the time show that Palin had threatened to fire Baker for not giving "full support" to the mayor.” An original article on this from 2/97 can be found here:

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/9/1/115753/9948/640/582095This page gives a lot of information on cronism running rampant in Palin’s city council and mayoral term.
The Oct. 28, 1996 edition of the Daily Sitka Sentinel, reported that Palin "asked all of the city's top managers to resign in order to test their loyalty to her administration.” Palin said she made the request for resignations to find out who supports her as mayor. "Wasilla is moving forward in a positive direction," she said. "This is the time for the department heads, to let me know if they plan to move forward or if it's time for a change."
http://www.andrewhalcro.com/shadow_governorI’m also a little concerned about what role Palin’s husband, a former oil man, will have in the new white house if his wife is elected VP.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/9/1/4231/18477/878/581881Some videos showing a link between Mrs Palin and AIP, the Alaska Independence Party. AIP (
http://www.akip.org/index.html) has come back and said that Sarah was never a member, but that her husband, Paul, was. I’m still concerned somewhat by this, especially in light of some of her other history.
http://www.adn.com/opinion/comment/story/295464.htmlThis is an EdOp article discussing a radio interview that Palin did in early January 2008. Part of the interview can be heard on this YouTube video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9AIDRGzUAw (only listen if you don’t want to be biased by the YouTuber’s comments on the audio) This woman just giggles and all but flirts during the interview.
Two completely non-partisan sites that I really enjoy are :
www.ontheissues.org and
www.factcheck.org From on the Issues:
Q: Will you support the right of parents to opt out their children from curricula, books, classes, or surveys, which parents consider privacy-invading or offensive to their religion or conscience?
A: Yes. Parents should have the ultimate control over what their children are taught.

Q: What is your take on global warming and how is it affecting our country?
A: A changing environment will affect Alaska more than any other state, because of our location. I'm not one though who would attribute it to being man-made.

I’m not sure that I can support a woman who is interested in knowing how to ban books, participates in rampant cronism and earmarking, throws millions at sinking businesses, laughs at her co-worker’s diseases, and doesn’t think that man had a hand in global warming, yet thinks that parents should have complete control over what their children learn in school.
If you’ve made it this far after reading under the cut or if you skipped the cut entirely, I would still encourage you to look at non-partisan sites like OnTheIssues.org and FactCheck.org and learn some of the facts about the candidates that want your vote. Please don’t vote for or against someone because *I* said you should or you shouldn’t. Look, read, learn, and make an informed descision.
