after starting a new job in the surgery dept of holy family and making it halfway through the first session of summer classes, i embarked for redmond for my cousin's graduation, then to mazatlan. my parents and brothers flew straight to mexico, while i got picked "lucky me" to go with my grandma to oregon first. god forbid grandma fly alone...even though she does all the time...
oregon was fun. stayed at my grandma's house wednesday night to make it easier to get to the airport thursday morning. lucky me, she picked my *favorite* bitchface cousin to drive us. said cousin insisted on us sharing a room and i'm pretty sure tried to grope me. also kept me up with details on how she wants to get her morbidly obese, white-trash self pregnant. *hate*
in the morning: good thing after all that i accompanied grandma--she misread the ticket and thought she didn't have to be at the airport until the time the plane was scheduled to depart. sweet. raced out the door, made it on time only because my dad had the foresight to print our boarding passes beforehand.
i adore the cousins we went to visit, but it is one of the most contentious households i've ever been in. EVERYONE was fighting. my aunt, much like my mother, is very good at making everyone around her miserable. my uncle talked about how she's a jerk-in front of my grandma, my aunt's mom. bad choice, however true it was. at least my cousins made up pretty quickly. although the five-year-old is completely spoiled, because his mom either ignores him or screams at him, so he never listens. he was seriously pissing me off.
we finally made our cousin shirts-i like them. watched lots of movies, got all caught up on gossip. fun times. went to walmart-new gold sandals for $5, no sales tax.
the graduation was really weird, and i really didn't like it. students read the names, it was pretty much chaos, my uncle read the mayor's speech because the mayor didn't feel like going, and 2 old guys cussed each other out.
enchiladas for dinner-delish. and cupcakes. then alicia went to the all-nighter and amanda and i kind of chilled. packed, conked out. got up at the crack of early to go to the airport. my aunt slammed the back door of her suv on my head as i bent down to pick up a suitcase. prety sweet. concussion #5.
at airport, security took grandma;s toothpaste, leading to argument and me dragging her away. it was almost empty, for pete's sake. she bitched about it the whole flight to la, being drowned out by the shrieking baby and my well-hidden headphones.
long day of flying-got into la at like 8, which was early. slept on the chairs for 3 hours after grabbing a bite, then got up and ate lunch because grandma said to. we upgraded to first class. also sweet. kind of. not many amenities. the plane was delayed an hour and a half after we got on it because first they had to reorganize the bags, and then they thought they broke it but it was fine. ipod pooped out ten minutes into flight. ate mushy sandwich. should have ordered alcohol. got into mazatlan international-overcast but warm and humid. i made it through customs without a bump. grandma had incorrectly filled out forms because she couldn't read them but wouldn't let me help her. pretty sweet. i hate old people.
found tour group dad pre-payed to drive us to airport. we weren't on their list, but we had receipt, so we waited for an hour and were driven crazily(it was awesome) to hotel in fifteen-passenger van. lady behind me coughed all over the back of my neck the entire ride, while moaning about the "poor pony all alone" and any other animals she saw, causing young girl in seat in front of me to do the same(whining, not coughing, thankfully).
got to resort, mom met us at gate. showed us to room i get to share with grandma, which means she'll be going through my things. sweet. went down to beach to say hi to dad and brothers, who are trying to get rid of their farmers' tans. they were throwing the football in the waves and popping the little jellyfish that dot the beach. it's an ok suite, though, and i remember a lot of things from the last time i was here. i was three. i remember the pool, because i almost drowned in it when i told one of my uncles i could swim without my water wings. i remember the beach, where i caught the same angel fish like 6 times. also got knocked out by a frisbee. i remember the weird little shower where they piled all my cousins and me after i got hit in the head with the frisbee. my mom is trying to persuade my brothers and me to sit in it (clothed) so she can take a "deja-vu" picture. i also remember the little craft hut where you can paint ceramic banks, because a lady took the piggy bank away from me and i had to paint a duck. talk about preschooler outrage.
dinner was delish. my mom lets my brothers drink, which she swore she wouldn't do, but we can't swim the rest of the night if we've had even a sip because it's dangerous. cool, mom. real cool.
tomorrow is mass-in spanish, at the cathedral. then walking around town. and stuff. there are horses for rent on the beach right by the hotel, my parents tell me, so i hope to do that tomorrow or monday. also we're going deep-sea fishing. i am ridiculously excited for that.
patrick watched the third race of the triple crown, in which big brown failed at life. i'm proud of patrick for watching it. mad at the stupid horse, though. :D
i know more spanish than i thought i did. makes me happy. i'm afraid to open my mouth though, because i keep mixing in french.
