Status Update

Feb 26, 2010 22:56

So it’s been a couple weeks since my last status update so I thought I should do another one - if for no other reason than to set everything down in one place to make it easier for me to plan out my future free time. >.<

First off - I AM EMPLOYED! Job isn’t all that great, pay stinks & commute is a bit longer than I’d like but, everyone seems friendly (no asshat managers) and there is a lot of potential for me to gain some new experience to hopefully help me either advance within the company or apply to a better position elsewhere. This means my writing and internet fun time has now been significantly cut as I’m now getting up at 5:00am to go to work. >.<

Have also noticed lately that my accent seems to be creeping back into my speech and it’s driving me crazy! I spent years changing it and it’s beyond frustrating now that all that work seems to be unraveling. >.< Will have to work harder I guess to keep it a nice neutral CT instead of shifting to a mix of Southie and central RI.

Lately I've also been reading up a storm. (Seven new books in the past twelve days.) Nothing great but my interest in 'cozies' has been re-awakened and so I've been working my way through a stack of them. ^^; Not the highest form or literature to be sure but still one of my favorites. :-D After all, Agatha Christie's Miss Marple is still a favorite character of mine. :-)

Oh, and just discovered about 300 photos on my camera from Japan. I thought I’d taken everything off it while still in Tokyo. Oops? Was kinda bittersweet to flip through and (try to) label them. Will have to make some sort of a project - printing and albumizing some of my greatest hits from Japan - before I forget everything! Funny how I’ve been home for almost four months and already my time abroad feels a lifetime ago - though, I suppose in a way it was.

Moving along… on to writing! What I currently have under way:

Chapter thirty-two of Simple Things is with a couple betas. I don’t know when they will have time to work on it but I’ll be sure to make edits (once I get them) my first priority. I’m getting antsy to get it done once and for all so I’ll be thrilled to get them posted as soon as I can. Chapters thirty-three and four are also with a beta and once they’re done ST will finally be complete. :-D Am looking forward to finally finishing so I can move on to other projects!

I’ve also two one-shots with another beta. One is humor and the other is a bit out of my comfort-zone. Sadly they’ve been with that beta since… well mid-January. Hmm, didn’t realize that it’d been so long. Guess I might have to see if something’s up.

As for moderndayportia’s Love’s Not Time’s fool Competition… I quietly dropped out last week when I realized that I wasn’t enjoying writing my story and with the short deadline there was no way I could finish on time and still do the source material justice. I still have it and fully intend on finishing but will do so at my own pace after I’ve worked on some other things as I think I just need to walk away for a bit.

I also haven’t forgotten about zelha’s promised mythology prompt. Am actually quite excited to start on it. (That might be the problem I was having with my Shakespeare fic - I really wanted to be working on my mythology one ^^; ) If I have the time this weekend I think I’ll probably finish my outline and get started.

Which, reminds me of the existence of a pair of unfinished one-shots that I’ve had kicking around my hard drive for a couple years. (Well, to be truthful, I’ve a whole stack of unfinished one-shots but can only deal with one or two at a time.) I’ll have to take another look at them and see if they’re worth salvaging.

Um, what else? I’ve an idea (admittedly not a great one) for a new possible multi tentatively named: Calendar Craze. (Actually has been on my profile for ages as my next project.) Am still not sure if it’ll be an over-grown one-shot or a two/three/four shot. Don’t know yet and am definitely not ready to start another epic.

I’d also like to do another re-telling, preferably fairy tale as that’s where my true interest lies, but could try something else. Haven’t found something that I’ve been able to make a clear (well in my mind) transition into the world of Naruto yet though. Am (and have been) definitely been looking around though, so will hopefully find something soon.

Oh, and I also have an outstanding collab with lulu_42. Though, as busy as we both have been lately I doubt that will go anywhere in the near future. >.< But, it’s still there on a back burner. :-)

Uh, think that’s about all for now. :-) Am off to peruse my fairy tale collection to see if I can scrounge up something interesting. ;-)
