I landed in one piece yesterday midday. Whatever anybody says about it being a long flight, it was the best 24+ hours (including layovers) I've spent in many many days. The way the time changes, it was so easy to sleep (I hit somewhere around 10 to 12 hours), there are more movies than you could watch in total, Qantas has the friendliest and nicest staff and good meals, and so on and so forth. I finished reading "In a Sunburned Country" and caught up on a couple travel guides. We did have a brief stayover in Auckland, which made me REALLY want to go explore around there, but Sydney should hold me over as well.
If you treat the flight as a joy and not a burden, it will be so great. Oh yeah, sleep and drink wine, but also drink lots of water (they fill up bottles if you ask, I brought my Nalgene) and get up to stretch every once in a while. And pack a toothbrush and toothpaste in your carry on bag. It's nice to do that.
Enjoy the trip!
