Another week, another book

Still on a reading roll at the moment. Really helped by the fact that we've had a few early nights recently where we just go to bed and read and read. John's determined to get through the Sherlock Holmes set that he bought from The Book People earlier in the year (eight books for less than £10 and they're much nicer than the single The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes book that I got last year).

Book 15 of 2010 - All Together Dead - Charlaine Harris

I was really surprised at how quickly I got through this one. I was intending to take it a little slow because I figured I could go on to read the book I've ordered from the library (The Self-Preservation Society) before going on to the last Southern Vampire book that I've got. But of course I got sucked in.

This one didn't move around as much as the others, well, it was in a different place, but the story was pretty much contained to events taking place in the big vampire hotel, The Pyramid of Gizeh, so there was no real geography to have to get my head around. I love that the stories take place in different places but as they are places which are really alien to me I sometimes find myself wishing that I had a map at the front of the book which I could peep at to help orientate myself.

Because this one was taking place at the hotel, I was able to create the mental picture myself without having to rely on the descriptions of the surroundings.

I also liked the fact that it was pretty much focused on the vampires. As much as I enjoy hearing about the other supes, I love hearing about the vampires; their social structure, their rituals and all that jazz. That's what this one was mostly about and I loved it.

I was going to wait until the next day to start reading the last book (that I own) From Dead To Worse but John was sitting up reading for a bit so I started on it. I was planning on saving these ones so they'd last me longer, but I've clearly failed miserably at that one.

I've been spending the afternoon updating my Goodreads.com 'To-read' list. I've got over fifty books there, so I'm probably set until at least next year. I don't even own half of them so there'll be numerous trips to the library, with the exception of the Terry Pratchett books, I'm planning on ordering them from Amazon Marketplace. We got most of the ones we own at the moment from charity shops, but you don't see them there so often now. I'll also need to order the Robert Asprin books because even though Rothesay Academy used to have them in the library, it would appear that they don't have them any more, or they're not part of the inter-library loan.

I'd better start saving my pennies!
