Thunder boomers and eyeballs...

If that subject line isn't Halloweeny, not sure what is. *g*

My eyeballs are fine, according to the doc. The smeary thing is what I suspected: a floater. Annoying but not anything that will threaten my vision. I picked out new glasses and got them ordered, as my prescription had changed just a hair, plus my current glasses are nearly 5 years old and starting to show it. The new ones aren't as nice, but they'll do. The exam and the glasses combined only cost $48 because of our new vision insurance. The glasses I wear now were bought without insurance and were $800!! (I have a very strong prescription). So that was a pleasant surprise. We knew it would cover a lot of the cost, but I didn't realize it would cover THAT much of the cost.

The thunder boomers are weather-related, not puppy-related. Lots and lots of thunderstorms rolling through this afternoon and evening, bringing a one-day taste of winter before it warms back up again Saturday. We'll probably get our first frost Friday night. Boomer (the dog!) is handling it all fairly well--the really loud peals make him look up, but he's not whining or shaking. He is, however, sticking close to me, so I know he's uneasy. I wish I hadn't had to be at the eye doctor--he was home alone in his crate when the storms started rolling through and I have no idea if he was scared then.

The storms put the kibosh on my plans to go back into the city to see the NHL Stanley Cup trophy. It's in town at Bass Pro's flagship store for viewing and photo ops. I was hoping to go, but I don't dare leave Boomer by himself any longer today since more storms are forecast. Maybe the Blues will win it again in my lifetime (maybe this season!) and I'll have another opportunity then. Dink chided me that I never do anything for myself and I should go. She's not wrong, but she and hubby are both at work, and so no one would be here with Boomer. Puppies are so like children: worth it entirely, but you do sometimes have to be an adult and set aside your own desires for their well-being.

Made some chili before I left for my appointment, so we'll have SPICY AND WELL-SEASONED Mexican food tonight. XD I'll mix up a batch of cornbread to go with it. I picked up some cinnamon rolls at the grocery store on the way home, because Dink likes cinnamon rolls with her chili, Kansas-style. I like it, too, but I'm in the mood for some good cornbread. Tomorrow I have no plans to go out in the howling winds and freezing temps, so it'll be nice to stay home and be cozy. I do like being retired!

personal ramblings, boomer
