I am attempting to be better about blogging.
One of the newest donkeys has a severe case of rain scald. For those of you who are not familiar with that, its actually pretty common. Normally it appears on the back, neck or rump as patches of chapped skin. They may lose a few patches of hair, but poor Curly has lost most of his. He was one HUGE matt of hair. Just using the brush and curry comb, his hair was coming off in HUGE patches. Now he is over half bald. Normally donkeys do not need much in the way of extra care. They are pretty sturdy and self sustaining. But he was shivering in the recent cold snap. So I actually got him a horse blanket. He was better than I thought he would be with me trying to get it on him.
I took it off him during the day, but at least for tonight also, he should wear it.
Pictures below.
This was from the first week we had them. Almost all of the hair you see is one HUGE mat.
After 3 days of grooming.
Seven and Curly
Better view of Curly. All of the gray is skin, the brown is hair. On his body at least.
Curly, Koko and Suwanee's tail end =p
