[236] What Does Respect Mean to You?

Adama looks older than the photo in his dossier. That makes sense, of course; it’s been at least three years since that photo had been taken.

Three years of life on the run, and at war against the Cylons, are guaranteed to age even the strongest man.

His entire crew is assembled in the hangar bay-all standing at attention-uniforms pressed and boots polished. They watch me, unmoving, as I descend the steps from the raptor, and I straighten my back, standing a little bit taller.

I survey the scene before me-a tired Battlestar and an aged commander-that they had somehow managed to survive was nothing short of the miracle I had earlier proclaimed it, and it makes me smile just a little.

Then, I move forward yet again until I am standing toe-to-toe with Adama and looking him in the eye.

His jaw tightens slightly and then he raises his right hand, and brings it to his head in a crisp, sharp salute. I hesitate only briefly before returning it.
