I got busy with school and such, sorry guys.
Wednesday the 19th: We slept in a bit because, well, vacation is all about sleeping in and enjoying your vacation. The hotel bed was absolute heaven -a) because Alex was sleeping beside me and b) because it was nice and fluffy as opposed to my hard bed. After some refreshing we took off out into the City and wandered up to Columbus Circle. We found out that the Time Warner building has a mall in it so we explored a bunch of stores like Armani Exchange and such. Alex bought me a bunch of stuff at Sephora before we sat down for some macaroons (french vanilla and chocolate -the chocolate was much better than vanilla.) I hadn't realized that we had sat beside a Japanese couple. That made me laugh because I had mentioned them to Alex before. After the mall we took off up on the E train to 79th St and the Museum of Natural History where Alex took pictures of the outside. We cross the street to Central Park and managed to find our way (with the help of a map and Alex) though the Park. Alex took pictures of the Marionette Theater and then we head up a steep path and walked
right
up
onto
Belvedere Castle.
The view from and the castle, though not gigantic, were beautiful. After hanging out on the bottom for a bit and taking some pictures and drinks, we realized you could go inside. We climbed the very narrow stairs to the second floor and continued taking pictures for a while.
I was sitting in a little lookout sort of spot and the whole second floor cleared out.
Alex got down on one knee and took my ring from me.
I was blushing so bad.
He asked, "Sierra, will you marry me?"
In person.
I'm blushing just thinking about it! Oh my god YES! Of course I will!
I'm sure we would have stayed there for a long while had it not been for the humidity. As it was, we head up to the third floor and then headed back across the big street in between the park and the museum and we snuck inside the air conditioned building. Unfortunately, we couldn't get in because we didn't have tickets. We waited for a while and talked, pretty much basking in the air conditioning, until they began letting people in for free about a half hour or so before the museum closed. We spent some time in the shop where I bought Alex a Dino (because he likes dinos) and I got myself a rock candy (because it's sugary.) Then we made a mad dash to look at the first floor before we made it to the stairs. Alex convinced me we had enough time to look at the 4th floor so we ran up the stairs to the Dino Exhibit. Alex was like a kid in a toy store! I wish we could have spent more time there (and perhaps if I hadn't taken so long in the store we could have, dumbass Sierra) and that I had realized we could take flash photos rather than without flash. Nonetheless, we got a bunch of pictures of the Dino Exhibit so that was awesome.
The subway was a hot wreck as usual. We walked through Times Square to get up to the hotel and then went off in search of food afterwards. Specifically we were looking for the Old Castle Pub but my failuredirections (my head was in the wrong place) got us to a completely different place. After walking around a million blocks we finally found the place and stopped to eat. Alex ordered a burger and I ordered French Onion soup and a Pineapple Express. I wasn't too fond of the drink so Alex finished it off, then we switched dinners. Our breaths smelled like onions all night long.
Took off for bed, then.
Thursday the 20th: In the morning the alarms began going off. No lie. We rushed to get ready to run out as we saw the fire trucks pull up but decided to wait a bit as the alarm stopped. The firefighters vanished into the building but then rolled up the equipment. Alas, we took off into the hall as though leaving but then turned around after the crazy cleaning lady saw us and went back in to get finished getting ready. No fire, false alarm. Ugh.
Afterwards we walked through Times Square to visit the Sanrio Luxe store and stopped to eat at a PAX Wholesome Food on the way. I ordered a turkey wrap and a Mountain Dew that Alex and I finished off together. We made it to the Sanrio store and saw all of the fancy pants Hello Kitty stuff that costs way too much (grr, i saw a different Hello Kitty wallet in FYE that was also made by Loungefly in the same style and it was $15 cheaper. Assholes.) BUT it was all really cute!
Down to Bryant Park and (after waking around the whole thing -like I said, failuredirections) Kinokuniya! I took Alex downstairs because the last time we were there we hadn't gone into the basement. It's cool because they have art supplies and cute folders and such down there. Third floor awaited with manga and though I searched for the Japanese ARIA manga, I couldn't find it. (SOB.) Lo and behold, I picked up volume 2 of AQUA in English and after paying we took off out into the day.
Oh man, let me tell you, we tried to find somewhere to eat after that and walked into a few really bad smelling food places, including a different PAX. I think we ended up down on 39th St? and found a Hale and Hearty Soup. I don't know if we were really planning on eating there but Alex spotted a ten dollar bill resting on some drinks that I hadn't seen. He pointed it out and then went to look for a sandwich while I ordered a salad. While I was waiting I grabbed the ten. LUNCH WAS FREE! /dinner. It was really good, too! I finished the salad up while we were at the hotel.
Friday the 21st: The last day we were there. We had packed up the night before and were pretty much all ready to go. After a few last minute grabs, we checked out at about 11:30~45 a.m. We took off to find something to eat. For a while we stood at the corner of Broadway and 53rd trying to decide until we spotted a cupcake store across the street. Crumbs, I think it was called. I ordered an M&M candy cookie and a brownie cupcake that we shared. I wish I had had a birthday candle as it was Alex's second birthday cupcake! It was yummy and very, very huge.
We returned to the other side of the street and the E train that we took to the Sutphin and Jamaica station to catch the Airtrain to the airport. That took a while, but after we made it to the airport Alex grabbed a bite to eat and we waited. It was a hell of a wait. We walked through the airport and then noticed the security line was ages long. I didn't want to see him get in that line but he had to. I watched him the whole way and waited until he made it through. There was a mishap involving his phone, too, and it was thought one of the employees stole it. The only way he could file a report was to go DOWNSTAIRS to get a friggen sheet to fill out. At that point that was impossible because he had a plane to catch. Assholes wanted to do nothing to help.
Then the rain came, and when the rain began to fall it began to storm. The plane to San Francisco that was leaving before his flight couldn't take off. I was headed to the Air Train and then turned around and went back down when it appeared it was going to be a while before his flight left. That turned into an hour, then two hours, and my own Air Train adventure took place within about twenty minutes of that time. (Again, failuredirections. I kept going the wrong way.)
Before I knew it I was at the bus station and I was calling Alex from the Port Authority. We talked for a while until his plane was getting ready to board at around 8:10 p.m.. I arrived home around 10:15 p.m. and he gave me around some time around 1~1:30 a.m. to let me know that he arrived safe in LAX.
I can't believe it's been a week. I returned to work, we've both started school, he had his birthday (in which he turned my favorite number), he got into the classes that he needed for Histotech and I worked a half day today. Dad took me into Kingston because the ATM in Rosendale was broken and I bought a pair of Aeropastel pants because they were buy one get one free. And then I ate a toasty, crunchy (yes Alex, the pizza was crunchy again on my side) California Pizza Kitchen. It was delicious.
I had an amazingly fun vacation. I would do it all over again if I could and take Alex more places and do more things. There's still so much of NY to see.
...preferably in a season without humidity. BUT I LOVE IT WHEN I GET TO SEE ALEX NO MATTER WHAT SEASON!
