a very San Francisco wedding...

This entry is a little overdue, but what can I say? I'm lazy.
So right before we headed on our drive out west, my roomates and I got a gig catering this wedding in the city. A friend of a friend kind of deal- the Bride's mother decided she needed help at the last minute.

This was no ordinary wedding. We met the bride first, she had a partially shaven head- think Flock of Seagulls type haristyle ca. mid 80s- she was wearing torn jeans, an oversized black leather jacket and military issue boots. She is apparently a writer. The groom is a German fashion designer- or rather, he is a fashion designer born in Mexico and popular in Germany and Eastern Europe. He had a complimentary hairdo, only his was shaven on the other side. A punk rock yin and yang couple. The ceremony was held at Dolores park in the Mission district of San Francsico. When we got there the bride's friend was making an art installation in the dirt between a grove of palm trees. It was a sort of spiral made from kiddie box sand, ornamental rocks and birdseed. She had planted a rosebush in the center. She asked us to help shoo the birds (and bums) away from the art.
We were employeed mostly to set up chairs and tables, serve and set out the food etc.

The ceremony was performed by a friend of the couple who owns a mediteranean food restaurant in the east bay. He presided over the wedding because he could read a blessing in arabic that the couple had liked (neither of them speak a word of arabic). He also played in a middle eastern flute/ acid rock band during the reception. This act was followed by the groom's semi-punk band and a few other acts. They had rented a stage for the afternoon and by this time the park was full of sunbathing onlookers who got a free rock show.

Pictures are to come in the next entry (friends-only to protect the innocent)
