Back to Texas

So here I am again. In San Antonio, sitting in my childhood bedroom. Over the last few weeks I have driven from Oakland to Texas with 3 friends and a dog in an unairconditioned volvo station wagon. I played hostess for the 3 roomates, taking them around the sites in central texas- downtown San Antonio, Austin, a few state parks, padre island, etc. Caitlin had her first breakfast taco and learned a few new words like "queso" and "empanada", Margaret and Caitlin and I chased sidewalker crabs along the beach and Gomez got a nice sunburn. There were a few other firsts that i cannot recall.
Now there are not three lovely ladies in my bedroom, just a shaggy mutt dog named Bucket.
I am trying to clean and organize and pair down my room so that it may serve as some type of sanctuary from the noise and mess and complete lack of efficiency that surrounds my mother.

I went by whole earth last week. They said I didn't even have t oask for my job back. They had planned on putting me in the schedule even if I hadn't come by to ask. Perhaps i shouldn't have come by at all, because now here it is, the first of the month, and my name is not to be found on the new schedule. I'd best get down there and see what the hell is going on.
If all that gets sorted out I will have seniority in that store, since everyone who was at Whole Earth before me has been fired by now. I hope they aren't planning on firing me just because I have reached some silly Whole Earth, 4-years-plus expiration date. Or, more likely, that they suspect me of conspiring with fellow old-school whole earthers who have since been fired. How dare I fratnernize with the enemy.
