Here I am with the rose that they gave me when I went to a talk by the senator on Women's Rights and International Women's Day. Thanks to my profesor/friend Carlos, I got to meet her. She was crazy nice, and her lecture was quite funny, although about the lack of rights that women have here, which is not funny.
Here we are at a soccer game, between the Querétaro Gallos Blancos and Cruz Azul.
Maggie and Scotty. Scotty just can't keep from making those faces.
Emilia is one of my favorite people.
I think we decided these were the cheerleaders, but they didn't cheer. Just walked around the field holding umbrellas before the game, at halftime, and after. It was quite a feet that they could walk in those heels and with those butts, though. Man, it was pretty astounding.
These girls were advertising coke zero, but I guess they wanted to cater to all the Jewish people in the crowd who read from right to left. We called them the orez girls.
after the game we went to Gabi's. We crammed 10 people into her little 4-door sedan.
The lovely miss megan schafer, on the laps of the two girls sitting in the front seat.
I really haven't gotten used to seeing cityscapes like this. My friend Alberto took me up to his subdivision on the top of a mountain. From there you can see the whole city. It was amazing.
Secret aaaagent man, secret aaaagent man, they're giving you a number, and they're taking away your name...
A big fuente with a statue celebrating the indigenous heritage. Ironic, since all around it are really poor indigenous people begging for money.
El callejón entre de la Plaza de Armas y Jardín Zenea.
We went to Michoacán this weekend. It was amazing and beautiful, especially Morelia. It made me wish that I'd studied there.
In the Regional Museum in Morelia. I really like the light on this painting more than the actual painting. The painting is of the spanish Inquisition and the horrors it brought when it came to México.
Over that doorway ride the four horsemen of the Apocalypse. Made me think of Terry Pratchett.
Close up.
Here on the street where we...stayed while in Patzcuaro.
Pretty, ¿no?
In the central plaza en Patazcuaro. Que bonita luz, ¿verdad?
This little family was doing "el baile de los viejitos"(the dance of the little old people) en the plaza. It was awesome, and we watched.
This is Autumn. She's the fourteen year-old daughter of one of the women in our group. She's pretty awesome, but she's leaving this week. I'm really gonna miss her.
These boys were playing, wrestling in the grass, while the viejito watched wistfully from the sidelines. I can't think how it would have been to not have had time to be a kid when I was a kid.
A gorgeous basilica en Patzcuaro. Even though it's a pretty poor, small town, it still had a basilica tan linda.
There were actually two girls having their quinsieneras while we were in the church. I only got this one picture, because i didn't want to be rude, but it was amazing. There were limos, and attendants dressed like the prince in Cinderella dressed (not dressed up, just with the tassels and all that stuff. It wasn't a walt disney costume ball).
We're going to an island in the middle of the lake of Patzcuaro, and these are some of the women that travel there every day to earn their living and peddle their wares. They were really friendly.
I love this picture. There was a family on the boat too and the father was helping his daughter catch water in her rainbow net.
We went to this island, of which I can't remember the name. They have a really famous dia de los muertos celebration here, though. Ít's supposed to be awesome. I'd like to see it.
The fisherman fish with these big wing-shaped nets. They're really amazing looking.
firing up the furnace to mold some copper. It was way cool.
I really wanted to ship this home to mom and dad for our new bathroom. I've wanted a tub like this ever since I first saw pride and predjudice (1995 A&E BBC version).
We went to dinner at this great restaurant, where, incidentally, was every gringo in Patzcuaro. It was great wine, though. All the other pictures I have of this dinner turned out grainy and bad, since it was so dark, so I'm just going to post this one. Laura was waving her hands about wildly like some crazy italian or something and so when I got the photo of Emilia, Laura's hand looks like she's about to smash Emilia's head.
Megan's and my room. We were packing up to leave. That stuff on my bed isn't all mine, Ashley came in to use the bathroom.
Laura's room, pre-departure.
Doesn't Ashley look the well traveled gringa?
Meghan and Sammy. We're at the ruins near Tzinzuntzan.
I'm showing y'all the beautiful vista, although you can hardly see me.
I just liked this picture. Very chill, very tranquila...
Meghan's hiding behind the bush, but she's doing a such a great job, you can hardly see her.
I'm king of the mountain of rocks!
Another pretty church, this time in Tzinzuntzan. The land was actually tilted, so I had to tilt my camera a bit in order to get a straight shot.
The inside of said pretty church. See what I mean about tilted? The camera is at a right angle with the ground.
What do you do in a hollow tree except hide in it? Maybe store some buried treasure, but I didn't think too look for that.
Morelia again. We stopped there on our way back, for lunch. It's beautiful, isn't it? And it had some really good food.
There were some gorgous vistas on the drive home. If you enlarge this picture, you can see a very light reflection of my camera. Meghan took this. Most of the truly beautiful views were on her side of the bus, because she was on the west side.
I took this one, but it took me ages to do so and many failed attempts.
This one Meghan took again. Beautiful, huh?
Well, if you'll pardon the pun, that sets the sun on my adventures as of now and brings y'all up to date. Don't expect another post like this for awhile because that just took me over 2 hours to do. But, because I love you all, I was happy to do it.
Now, I have to go home, Alberto and I are hanging out tonight and I need to shower.
