Poor Parker!

Parker hasn't been sounding very good this weekend. Yesterday morning he was getting worse but still no fever. I self diagnosed (can you self diagnose someone other than your self? LOL) him with croup! I called the doctor's office because he did sound so bad, but the dumb nurse said not to bring him in. I kind of wanted them to listen to him but didn't want to go if we didn't have to. She kept telling me to give him benadryl for his cough and stuffy nose and I kept saying he didn't have a stuffy nose. She asked if his cough was congested or barky and I said it's barky when he cough but he isn't coughing a lot, he mostly sounds croupy when he cries or talks, and it's certainly not a congestion sound! She said it's allergies, I disagreed but whatever! he got worse as the day went on so last night Hubby called the after hours nurse. Parker had a fever by last night and the nurse heard him over the phone and said oh yeah we had to take him to the ER. She also asked if he was drooling a lot and I said yes, and she said that's bad and he has to go in. But seriously, he's 7 months old! It would be odd if he was NOT drooling, lol.

My dad came to sit with the kids who were all in bed and Hubs and I took Parker to the Emergency room. Of course Parker fell asleep on the way there but then he woke up and started wheezing and sounding all awful again! The doctor said it's OK for him to sound like he's dying when he cries but since he was having trouble breathing when he was happy and content, we had to stay for awhile. They took xrays, which he HATED! He can't breathe as well when he is flat on his back and he had to stay that way while the twerp for everything set up. By the time we were finally able to pick him up he was gasping and REALLY sounding bad! He had to have a shot of steriods but luckily they didn't make him weird. He only had to have one breathing treatment but then we had to wait around for a few hours to be sure he didn't have a bad reaction or rebound and get worse. He slept most of the time but kept waking up every so often to complain. We finally got back home around 2:30am, I think. Now I'm tiiired!

Hubby took him to our doctor this afternoon because the hospital told us to. Our doctor wanted to know why we took him in when the nurse in the morning said not to, so hubby said the nurse in the evening said we had to! She looked at what the hospital doc did and said he needed to go in if they gave him blah blah blah. She also said Larkyn will definitely get it and we probably will too, but it will just be laryngitis for us. Maybe this will teach Larkyn to stop stealing his pacifier and his germs! Doc gave us an extra large thing of steriods so that if Larkyn starts getting croupy we'll have it already to give her.

I'd really like a nap, but that's not happening. Hubby has to work late, which is a bummer. One of my soaps has turned into a musical today, that's kinda odd. Also interesting that they chose a few people to sing that REALLY shouldn't be singing, hehe.

sick kid, parker
