I Would Have Been Home An Hour Ago, But I Was Stuck in Traffic

[Tip O’the Hat to terpsichoros for the Link]

Forbes Magazine has just come out with their full list of the Worst Intersections in America. I’m pleased to say that Los Angeles has nary an intersection in the Top 5, and only one in the Top 10 (the distinction of having the most in the Top 10 goes to the New York Metro area), but we have our share of the worst ( Read more... )

I'm trying to remember where I-5 and Imperial meet.

That said, up here, there's WA-167 and I-405 in Renton. That interchange is awful, and is utter hell if you're a semi.

EDIT:

OK, granted, I'm using local standards. That, and I forgot the interchange from I5 SB to WA-520 EB - great fun if you get on from the University District or from Ballard.

Despite this, I still laugh when I encounter natives who gripe about traffic up here, and then tell them about the East LA interchange, describing in great detail the four roads that confluence at this point, with the side orders of 710 and 110.

Wait, what happened to the 405/101 interchange? Did they actually fix that?!

Your observation does make me want to job-hunt in the OC. (-:

It's actually been pretty smooth since the reworked it. Now the 405 traffic getting on at Ventura doesn't have to weave through the 101 traffic. They still need to address SB 405, but that's in the planning stages (and will take more work).

Good to know! That will reassure me about job-hunting to the north, if the economy ever climbs back up out of the toilet (and if I can make it past the 10 alive).

I'm surprised Las Vegas Blvd S at Tropicana isn't on here.

Odd, maybe because of the 22 widening, the Orange Crush is no longer on the list in OC?

As for the SF Bay Area, I agree the 238 area is pretty bad - but what about the MacArthur Maze? I can't believe that isn't on it. It's the worst congested in the Bay Area, IIRC, according to Caltrans and us.

The article doesn't give a very good idea of how they measured, though it's by "intersection", not by freeway, which might be a start. 238 is all intersection. I'd say something about the downturn, but I think their data are a little older than that.
