...we had something like 300-400 kids tonight. It seems that everyone and their brother brings their kids to our neighborhood to go trick or treating. Evidently, a neighbor down the street had his house decorations on the news, and there used to be a haunted house on ths street. I think between 6:30 and 7:30, I never sat down ( Read more... )

Tonight being football night, I wasn't able to come to the door. I did, however, leave about 4 1/2 lbs. worth of candy in a bowl outside the door. It's all gone.

Lots of kids in this complex.

Wow! 300-400 kids? No one sends their children house to house here (it's not the best neighborhood...) What we're beginning to see a lot nowadays is children trick-or-treating at our malls.

In our old neighborhood (which was less good -- North Hills, under $500K houses), we had perhaps 35 kids. Here, we're in a more upscale neighborhood (Northridge, ~800K houses). They were importing kids from other neighborhoods, and the kids were just doing our block, multiple times.

It got so I dreaded going to the door. The kids would just stand there and hold out their bags. Peter, Paul, and Mary described it best: Children going from house to house, with their parents providing cover, demaning protection candy.

I'm coming over to your house next year.

There was a sign up sheet downstairs for folk who wanted trick-or-treaters. I got home really late and didn't get to sign up. I put a bowl out w/ candy. The once when we heard someone taking something from the bowl... it was our room mate coming home.

Wow.

My doorbell rang once. I didn't answer it, partly because I have no candy but mostly because by the time I go down three flights of stairs the kids are gone.
