Either CSU CI or UCSB.

CSUCI: It's Ventura County's only other university, so we're competing with them for students and endowments in a way. But they're not quite our rival. Besides, they've yet to establish any academic or athletic teams.

UCSB: They're geographically close, but CLU has almost nothing in common with them. Cal Poly SLO is their rival.

You could say that, but no. Pepperdine is just over the hill from CLU (about a half-hour drive) and both are Christian-affiliated schools. However, Pepperdine is much more conservative and prohibitively expensive for many to attend. Athletically, both have excellent basketball programs, but Pepperdine plays in Division I and CLU competes in D-III.

Is Pepperdine D-I in sports other than basketball? IIRC, they don't have a football team.

I believe all of Pepperdine's teams compete in D-I. It wouldn't make any sense otherwise.
