Mutual Appreciation (Andrew Bujalski, 2005)

Amy wanted to see it, so we watched it on her lap top. I am still sooo impressed with how the story moves only in small, subtle ways, but the effect is really affecting. I was especially bothered with the scene in which Alan (?) is wasted, at that party, and the women present make him put on a dress. That scene in the washroom when he’s changing is so forlorn and so devastating, even though on the surface, it’s just harmless playing around. I’m always impressed with stories that have protagonists whom are afraid to assert themselves and act on their own behalf.
