I had a professor go on about how post modern Manhattan Murder Mystery is and I get what he's saying but there's something else that is more interesting to me. Allen in the early 90s was doing something different with his style that continued up until the point maybe ...Jade Scorpion came out. He had a very hand held, long take, unchained sort of filming technique. One that pre-figured to look of things like Arrested Development. The effect in this film is it creates a dissonance between an objective reality and cinematic genre cliche's. Diane Keaton is performing genre in this film. So when genre actually happens it's dislocated. I guess that's post modern, but I think Allen was just trying to convey his love for films like Rear Window and let you feel it in a visceral way.
