Is Woody Allen kind of sexist?
Julie Klausner suggested as much on The Best Show when she and Tom were mocking Midnight in Paris. Xenia echoed these sentiments as well based on the female lead in this and also Anything Else and Annie Hall. I didn't think Allen's portrayal of women is egregious compared with the average American film. I thought Diane Keaton's character in Manhattan was very strong as was the protagonist in Interiors, a female lead that I read in 'Allen on Allen' he considered his most autobiographical role. And what about most of the Mia Farrow films (Alice, Husbands and Wives, et al).
What do you think, Russian spam bots?
Tonight I'm going to see Manhatten at the Revue for like the zillionth time. I think this is my first time seeing it in the theatre. Yup. I remember seeing a film at the Anthology Archives in NYC and someone musing that Manhatten was in its way a remake of Chaplin's City Lights. I liked that.
