I've seen some live music lately. Thursday I went to the last Buried Inside show. They're a "metalcore" band from my hometown of Ottawa who released a couple records and did some touring. I think they got signed to Relapse records at some point. I went to school with Nick, the singer, who went on to run what used to be my neighbourhood videostore,
The Invisible Cinema. It was neat to see how they've progressed and grown up. They'd become less Reversal of Man and more His Hero is Gone, but with longer songs and more melody. The show went super late which meant that I didn't get to sleep until 3:30. I was pretty dead tired at work the next day, but did I go to sleep after? Hell no! I consumed an energy bowl at Fresh and went to the Toronto Reference Library where two local bands $100 and Fucked Up were playing for free. How much of a shmuck would I be for missing that?? $100 were wonderful bluegrass music that made me want to buy their albums. They played with such enthusiasm and they could really play their instruments. I recognised some of the tunes from the other time I saw them. Fucked Up sounded pretty bad even though they played ok. The sound was bouncing off the giant room and I had no interest in trying to get close and pummuled by moshing 15 year olds in Fear tshirts. After a couple songs I headed out. Walking down bloor with my bike in had through the meyhem of construction, sleep deprived, but feeling ok I realized that in my state I probably didn't make much sense the whole night. Conversations are half remembered. I wanted to make a T-shirt that said, "I havn't been drinking, I'm just really really sleep-deprived."
