Addicted to bluebells!

Apr 29, 2014 11:31

The bluebells are looking particularly pretty this week so I took a walk around the garden and took a few pics. They don't last *all* that long so you have to get them while they're at their best. Anyway, I thought I'd share the photos I took (under the cut of course as I suspect they're huge and might mess up people's friends' pages.)

Bluebells, bluebells, bluebells )

Thank you!

I suddenly remembered that I haven't emailed you. Will do that later.

Very spring-like and lovely to see!

The flowers and the sunshine certainly cheer you up, don't they!

I do love my bluebells. Pity P is not as keen. You can see who won that argument though... ;-p

Thank you. Think I need to make an icon or two from them. *g*

I think you should indeed make icons *Nods*

I love your primrose one.

I had a go, but the flowers don't reduce down as well as primrose flowers, which you can single out in a compact way. If you get what I mean. *g*

Oh, very pretty! I like bluebells too. I just caught our woods being bluebells-y last weekend, before they'd faded too much. I meant to post about my walk actually, but didn't in the end. I'm always puzzled by bluebell-growingness though. They seem to be pretty much over here, but I remember them being glorious in Dorset in late May, last year. How do they decide when to be?!

I dunno! Most odd, I agree. I tend to think of them as a late April, early May flowers but it's not always the case I fancy. And they're not out in Scotland yet despite it being mild up there.

Ahhh, bluebells! So ephemeral! I hope they are still there next week :)

There's a lovely Welsh poem about them, and it's all about their short-lived-ness (is this a word?) - 'they arrive, and then they depart / Oh, they do not last!'

Thanks for the pictures. So nice to know that they are blooming elsewhere, too.

I'm hoping they'll still be out on Tues, possibly just starting to go over. Which is one of the reasons why I nipped out and took some photos today. The Welsh poem states the case perfectly. *g*

In my head the best place for them is Cornwall. West of Penzance they're all over the hedgerows along with pink campion and it's just beautiful. On the road to Porthcurnow and Lamorna there are drifts of them everywhere at this time of year.

There's a garden around here that has nothing but bluebells - I must make sure I walk past it in the next day or two, just to see them this year.

But it doesn't have pink campion. Since I shall shortly be down in that area, I shall be looking out for that, too!

It's funny but the minute you cross the border into Devon that bluebell/pink campion mix all but disappears. Very odd.
