This 'n' that

I must make an effort to post here more often. Real life is a trifle complicated with our daughter's health and so forth but that's no excuse. Anyway, she has a date of the 20th. December for her surgery now and things, at the moment anyway, are quieter. We're got the usual cold bug thing that usually stays with us throughout the winter: think I might even miss it now if it didn't appear. I had an ultrasound which revealed I don't have gallstones so that was a relief. The interesting thing turned out to be that the radiographer could only find one kidney. Ah. 8-S

Mainly we're just keeping a close eye on our daughter and grandson at the moment, having them to stay now and then, so I'm intermittently busy and then very quiet. In the quiet moments I just find I want to crash out in front of the fire and TV... Strictly is a huge favourite at the moment but the second series of Downton was also excellent. Other favs, The Frozen Planet, Masterchef: The Professionals (are you watching nakeisha?), The Great British Food Revival, Merlin (season four is excellent!); The Great British Bakeoff was excellent but was, sadly, gone in the blink of an eye.

Am also reading a lot and have decided on a personal challenge - to read my way around every state of the USA. This is, obviously, going to take me a few years to do. *G* I've asked this question on my bookblog but am going to ask it here as well, as I know loads of people will not have seen that. Do you have a favourite book set in any American state? As many as you like, I don't mind. *All* recommendations most welcome... fiction, non-fiction, classics, modern, historical, I really don't mind as I plan to read several books from each state.

And here's my current favourite part of the USA:

It's the Guadalupe mountains in western Texas and the book I've been reading that connects to that place? Track of the Cat by Nevada Barr. *Probably* the most exciting book I've read this year. :-)
