Very intriguing AU. I love seeing Dean so stubborn so young, and his approach to catching the Demon is both heartwarming and heartbreaking. Great to see Pastor Jim taking him in the end.

I liked the way you wrote this, with the varying external points of view and methods of analysis. I kind of wish that psychologist was right, that the Demon is just a personification of guilt and fear. I've got to feel for the adults in Wee!Dean's life, in this AU and in "reality". They must really not know what to make of him.

Dean in any universe would baffle a few childhood authority figures, but without the solid anchor of John and Sammy, he'd have real problems coping, I think.

Oh, I'm sure of that too, for both parts of what you said. Completely agree.

Dangit! Got another plot bunny, grr.

Wow! This is an awesome perspective on a very damaged and yet focused young Dean and the ending is perfect.

Thank you! It's a tone I don't often do, so I'm glad it worked okay.

Yay! Pastor Jim!

... does he get placed with Bobby?

Heh. I don't think Bobby'd have much patience to be a foster-dad in the early-on years, but he would definitely be a significant influence in Dean's life, since he's a demon expert and Jim might have found Dean from Bobby's input about demon activity.

I was feeling VERY upset until I saw Pastor Jim. I know he's just a fictional person but I'm very happy he's able to care for fictional Dean. Whew.

Thanks for sharing.

Yep, Pastor Jim's scooping up Dean and making sure he gets the real help he needs, not having stuff he's seen dismissed as a mental problem and medicated into oblivion.

I figure Pastor Jim might be the kind of person to keep an ear out in the foster-care system for children who've lost their families due to supernatural causes, since no one else except a hunter or someone who knows about that stuff will be able to understand them.
