SPN: Season 3 Finale Hopes and Theories.
Posting a bunch of hopes and theories and vague meta I have regarding 3.16, some of which may go into Season 4. None are based on spoilers, because at this point (except for the spoiler I've been carrying forward, which is peripheral) I HAVE SEEN NO SPOILERS FOR THE FINALE! Or at least can't remember them. Not even the title. And I'm hoping to keep it that way.
NO SPOILERS. THEORY AND SPECULATION ONLY.
Actually, a lot of this is a re-iteration and detailing some of the theories I had at the start of the Season.
-Sam will 'go evil' to save Dean from Hell.
-Ruby will do some kind of 'I can't save him, but you can, if...' speech, revealing that Sam has had no psychic schtick for the last year because after YED was killed, Sam got control over his own power, as was intended all along, but has subconsciously turned them off or refused them, and if he only steps up and embraces the whole 'Boy-King of the Demons' thing, all will be well. Or something like that.
-Dean dying... probably. Maybe not a hacky-slashy shredded by Hellhounds death... I don't know. I think even after all the build up over the year, Dean dying or not dying will be the lesser part of the OMG of the finale. Which as a borderline DeanGirl, kind of freaks me out. o.O
-If Dean dies, I'm hoping his last words are something along the lines of "No, Sammy! Don't do it!" as the hounds drag him off or whatever.
-If Dean actually gets his soul dragged to Hell, Sam's getting the Colt from Lilith (using his newly light-switched power somehow) and opening the gate, either to hope Dean's near it waiting to get out like John was, or going in after Dean, which would be (literally) hell on the special effects budget.
-Here's my season 3 Colt theory: Ruby helped them make it usable again as the Colt specifically to make sure that Sam and Dean had a reason to keep it nearby at all times, so that when Dean's deal came due, Ruby could give Sam a nudge and he'd take the Colt and go open the gate again to get his brother back, and as a result, unleash the second wave of the demonic invasion, or something like that. This is why she was so disgusted they no longer had it in Jus-in-Bello, not because they couldn't use it to shoot a handful of Lilith's lackeys out of the thirty that were attacking.
-Still not sure Ruby isn't really Meg. Or really working with Lilith. Or neither. I had a post-ep tag for Jus-in-Bello, but never had a chance to write it up. If Ruby is working with Lilith, all the 'Sam opens the gate' stuff has been to serve Lilith's ends.
-Sam was allowed to be returned to life on the basis of a Deal (since Lilith holds all Deal-markers) because she wanted Dean's soul, and because she wanted YED dead as one of you mentioned this past week. Dean was given a year to live in hopes that watching Sam become "Boy-King" of the demons would break him, or figuring that he'd try to break the Deal and she could knock Sam dead again without any extra effort. It also serves to motivate Sam to 'go evil' to try and stop it, and while he then becomes more of a threat to her as he steps into his YED-assigned position, he might start gathering hench-demons like she has, remove all the anti-demon protections they have lurking around and become vulnerable to a quick backstab from a supposed demonic ally. *is totally not looking at Ruby*
-Remember those creepy face effects from Crossroad Blues? I'm hoping they'll be back.
-Music montage. Hoping we get one. Kind of hoping it's to "Carry On" but wondering if they'll use a different song because the end of Season Two kind of closed off a chapter of the story. It'll probably be "Carry On" though, if we get one. In any case, it will be awesome.

All that said... I'm staying entirely off the Internet (not even e-mail) from now until after I post the reaction post for tonight's episode, whenever that may be.
