It doesn't really bother me in a fic or on TV as long as there's consistency - something that starts with expletives like "freaking" should stick with it.

I'm not sure what they've done in the aired series, now that I think about it. I'm pretty sure I've heard Dean use both, but I can't off-hand think if he's used both in the same episode. There's some word combinations where frigging sounds better than freaking. In the end though, yeah, consistency is always good. :-)

i voted yes for question 3 and meant that i think they would be swearing. (i wanted to say that, because it's an "or" question and, yeah.)

Yeah, that's a little confusing, sorry! It's part of the poll code so I can't change it now, I don't think, but I'll try and clarify it. Incidentally, I love that icon. I could watch it all day. :-)

It always sounds like "Friggin'" when Dean uses it, but I can imagine him saying "Freakin'" in a different context. Like: "That's friggin' hilarious," in a sarcastic tone of voice is different from "Sam, you're freakin' weird." Generally, I'm pretty sure he uses "friggin" over the more proper-sounding "freakin'". Freakin' as a verb, of course, gets used by both boys.

As far as the swearing because of the censors... I'm sure that's what it really is, but I *love* playing with the trope that John raised them with an iron hand when it came to swearing, and that as a result they *still* tend to watch their language except under extreme circumstances. Dean's more likely to swear than Sam (no, really?), but while I don't *mind* fics in which they swear a lot, I prefer to hold them to the patter of the show.

Except that bullcrap is a horrible word and should just be replaced with bullshit. I mean, honestly.

On the last question, I chose -
Only when the situation *really* calls for it / not used casually

I'm not sure if this is what you meant or not, but I want to explain that I think they would still use friggin'/freakin' casually, i.e. "Just get in the friggin' car!"

And save actual curses for when they're really needed. For example, at the end of Night Shifter. "We are so f*cked."

I was thinking more in terms of firefights and dire anxiety-ridden situations where they wouldn't have the time or attention to spare to censor themselves, but yeah, the end of Nightshifter would totally be a situation that called for deliberate profanity! :-D

I totally wish Dean could say "fuck". 'cause Jensen saying that? Is really hot.

Hehe, unfortunately, on the CW, the station that doesn't let them say bullshit, and bleeps words on the DVD blooper real, probably not gonna happen.
