Okay, before I say anything else, I gotta ask - pretty please can I friend you? Because the potential glee of being able to wax lyrical in a filmtastic-style like this with someone on my flist is just way too tempting...

I think you cover the implication of the framing pretty damn well, and I dont actually think theres anything I can add that you havent already covered. :)

(Ps. I love your squee about the myths and the archetypes, I do the same!!)

Sure, friend away! I don't know how often I'll be posting this kind of stuff, most of my posts are dubious fic and random squeeing about the show and suchlike, but go right ahead. :-)

Done, and dont worry, I'm exactly, I'm either squeeing or flailing or something-ing over fandom in my journal, so expect random fleeting cases of intelligence, but not too much ;)

I love your thinking on that and I really hope you are right.

I hope so too, especially about the 'coming back to their mutual center' thing.

You make an extremely convincing case. :)

Unfortunately I hate Joseph Campbell and that writers are so chained to his Hero's Cycle, and it is HIS, there are certainly other ways of viewing things, and thus I'm not very happy with it. This does not change that, particularly given the way you have laid out the facts, I can completely see Kripke going there. So I have to agree with your interpretation.

Why do I hate it in this particular case? Because we're still left with perfect little Sammy lights stupid Dean's path and everything Dean does is subordinate to him. Dean's an also-ran. He can only do it because Sam's done it first. Even if what Dean 'does' at the end is equal, everything getting him there was subordinate.

Heh, yeah, I know a few people have problems with Joseph Campbell, that's why I put that bit in parentheses and warned, so those averse could skip it. The rest isn't based on anything Campbell wrote, just on what I see in the cap. :-)

This post is scary. And all those thought those 2.5 years ago you got just from one picture/screencap?
WOW

P.S. somehow stumbled upon your reaction/meta posts, read that you had predicted this since season one.. and the found this post. Now I want to read all you've written.

But from what I have already read - really like your reaction/meta posts.

This post is scary.

It kind of is, isn't it? :-)

But from what I have already read - really like your reaction/meta posts.

Thank you! Sometimes I'm way off base, but at least I'm usually insane about it. ;-)
