Apparently I'm going to comment on all of Fairyland's new releases from now on, since I stalk Fairyland like mad ( Read more... )

I think Fairyland being a new company is why they're releasing dolls so "unevenly"--focusing on new lines and practically ignoring others. I think once each line gets established with a good range of choices (10-12, like the MNF line has), we'll start to see more of a balance in what they release.

Then again, though, they're probably just following what's popular, like Lati. Lati releases special Yellows more than anything else, but once a year they do a special release for each of their other lines, too, so nobody is terribly neglected :)

I thought Ruby was similar to Belle when she was first released, but now that I've seen all these owner pics of Ruby, I find her and Belle to be significantly different. I think it's one of those things, especially with Lati and Fairyland, who don't have the greatest promo pics in the world, that you can't really tell how similar/dissimilar they are until you see them in person.

The truth is, good artists don't borrow, they steal. And by steal I don't mean exact copies, it's more along the lines of the hooves situation. Which, in my opinion, is all part of the creative process. Because it creates a creative community, and from that community, working together, new, innovative ideas are born. It's kind of like the Domuya Life Project dolls--since Soom was doing these crazy concept dolls, Domuya went ahead with a concept of their own, creating innovative dolls (in my opinion, of course).

Okay, total tangent there, but hey, isn't that what is LJ good for?

Looking at it, I think it's a matter of how much they manage to "wow" me with the new product. When PKF first came out, I didn't care that Fairyland was making a size to compete with Lati Yellow, because they were so cute! The originals, especially Bonnie and Zoe, are still my favorite. I doubt that I would have any complaints about Ruby or Icis reminding me of Lati molds if only they had won me over a little more. Given a choice I would take Belle and/or Kuroo, so it's only natural to pick apart any doll that doesn't quite measure up. I do love it that companies like Lati and Soom are setting trends and spreading them. The more the merrier!
