Pasta and Steak (1/1)

         Onew/key, friendship!Jonghyun/key, slight!Jonghyun/Minho. fluff, ♫ ►lips are unhappy - luck soul, heads up: told in au!jonghyun's pov

It all started one very fine day when Kim Jonghyun spotted his very flamboyant best friend, Kim Kibum, spying a brunet dressed in a blue buttoned-up shirt, and dark blue jeans behind a big potted plant near their high school entrance gates.

He watched, rather amused, as his best friend watched this boy who looked at his silver expensive-looking watch before he shrugged his shoulders and went off to some corridor (which was probably the direction of his homeroom class).

He watched as his best friend romantically sighed and leaned against the red brick walls, and a little shy smile graced his lips.

Jonghyun grimaced at his high definition view, before he involuntarily walked over to the same spot Kibum was spying slash stalking the boy awhile ago.

"As if your hot pink scarf, yellow cardigan and shiny shoes don't attract enough attention," He snorted as he gave Kibum an overall look, tsk-ing when his sight landed on the hideous yellow cardigan 'and I thought he was supposed to be the fashionista around here - whatever that meant', "Why are you wearing a pair of humongous sunglasses on a fine cloudy day such as today?"

"This is called fashion, Jonghyun," Kibum gave him a hard glare (of which he just rolled his eyes at) and then he fake coughed while he turned around real subtly (sarcasm) to check the surroundings before gesturing Jonghyun to come closer.

"I'll probably regret ever asking you this question, won't I?" Kibum rolled his eyes at this.

"No, psh - but listen!" He hushed his dramatically whining best friend, and then he held his hand sideways against Jonghyun's ear, "I think I found love."

That, my friend, was the start of this very awful journey of pastas, sobbings and fangirling (fanboying in Kibum's case) in Jonghyun's life.

---

"So you're telling me you were at the library last Saturday, which is why may I add, was the reason you weren't able to attend our date?" Jonghyun glared at Kibum, who just picked at his nails while nodding.

"I can't believe this. I'm actually being thrown aside just because of your boy-crush. Kim Kibum, where have I gone wrong in our friendship?" He pouted, fake-cried and dropped down to the table, which caused their spoon and forks to clang against their plates.

It was their lunch break, Kibum decided to tell him his story at that moment, but it was okay since their cafeteria food sucked. I mean, who would eat dried up yellowish pastas, anyway?

"I don't know maybe the part where you forgot that I actually went to the library!" Kibum's eyes went wide in horror, because he actually went to the old-musky-books-smelling room when he could have been sipping iced coffee with Jonghyun in their favorite coffee shop. "And that I'm in love for the very first time." It was true.

No matter how many times Kibum fooled around, he had never felt this giddy, this happy over seeing someone he liked. And Jonghyun could see that.

Which is why he pitied the man Kibum laid his eyes on.

"What's his name again?"

"Ugh, how many times do I have to answer your goddamn question," Kibum slapped a hand over his face, running it downwards before looking at Jonghyun seriously, "His name is Lee Jin Ki, okay? Stop asking! Ugh."

Oh, yes. Lee Jinki.

He was a senior, and he excelled in academics and sports. He was amazingly handsome and perfect in every aspect and, let's not forget that he is very polite, too. He never had any 'significant other' (that Kibum ridiculously claimed that said poor senior was waiting for his arrival in his life), and also, he was damn rich. Kibum had noticed him a week ago, just walking by the corridor with some friends, and just like that he had caught Kibum's eyes and heart and he had started stalking him then and there. He was so perfect that he shone under the sun and even dead flowers return to their blooming phase when he passed by. Okay, that was definitely Kibum's words and exaggeration.

Jonghyun rolled his eyes, eyeing his best friend who, currently, had his hands clasped together, head in the clouds and eyes sparkling with (disgusting) admiration, love and lust.

When he stopped though, Jonghyun raised an eyebrow at him. Kibum had his mouth opened and his hands slowly dropped to his sides.

"What now?" But before Jonghyun could even continue his intention of nagging Kibum, he was shocked.

For Kim Kibum had just scooped up his plate of dried up pasta and plopped it down on his own head.

That's right. The Kim Kibum who wore ridiculously flamboyant man-shirt dresses, very tight skinny jeans and stunning shoes dumped the bowl of disgrace-to-pastas-ever-known pasta.

Maybe it was a trend Jonghyun never knew of. Maybe instead of dying or bleaching your head blond you just add a few strings of pasta on your head and voila, you're blond!

But he banished that thought, since Kibum himself seemed to have notice his mistake and was now running to the big cafeteria doors for his life.

Jonghyun, as his best friend, figured out that he should run after him and he did, but not before noticing the gaping young man staring at Kibum's fading back view. Oh.

---

"What just happened back there?" Jonghyun finally asked as he handed Kibum a paper towel, "Your screws finally let loose?"

They were in the boy's comfort room that Kibum ran in to after he had bolted out of the cafeteria area.

Very original choice of place, Jonghyun sarcastically muttered once he found him with just one try. Kibum had barked 'get out' to all the boys who were doing their business (thankfully not many) and they complied, flustered as they quickly fumbled with their zippers and ran past Kibum (which was Jonghyun's clue of his whereabouts).

"I was about to thank you for the paper towel but no, you're not worthy of my gratitude," Kibum sniffed as he started cleaning himself.

"But you thought you were worthy of my pasta?"

Jonghyun knew he had said the wrong magic words then because Kibum suddenly dropped his hands, the paper towel dropping from his hand to the wet floor, sticking there. He had said the magic words for Kibum's waterworks.

He immediately tensed up as Kibum shoved his face to his chest, the gross pasta sauce getting smeared on his shirt (but this's my favorite! Jonghyun pouted), but nonetheless, he awkwardly patted Kibum's back, actually not helping at all.

"He must think I'm a freak or some weirdo," sobs "I mean, who would put pasta on his head," cries "Only me, Jonghyun, only me!" wail "I'm a freak of nature!" whine "He's never gonna like me now," weep "Not ever."

"There, there, Kibum," Jonghyun finally dropped his hand to his side as Kibum slowly gained control of his emotions, "I'm sure he doesn't think you're a freak of nature, maybe just a little weird but - Oh god not again, I'm sorry!" Kibum had started to bawl his eyes out once again as soon as Jonghyun mentioned freak, and more sobbing and weeping as he mentioned weird.

He was now back to awkwardly patting Kibum's back to comfort him.

---

"I'm really sure he doesn't mind that you just dumped pasta all over you, heck maybe he didn't even noticed," Kibum finally calmed down and they slowly make their way back to classrooms as the bell had already rang, signalling them that their lunch break's over and that they only have 10 minutes to get back to their classes.

"Thanks, Jonghyun," Kibum sniffed one more time as he pulled on his backpack's straps, "You're not a very good comforter but I know you tried." This, Jonghyun had to smile at. His best friend can be pretty annoying at times (most), but he's also very cute and adorable and god, Jonghyun was just so tempted to pinch his nose but he wouldn't risk his life for it.

He was walking behind Kibum, so when the latter stopped he collided with his back. "What is it now, Kibum?"

But he didn't need to hear the answer as he just saw 'the' answer.

Lee Jinki, the highly ruler of Kim Kibum's heart, was standing in front of them. He had his hand behind his neck, and he looked like an awkward penguin with a silly coy smile on his face.

"Um, hello Kim Kibum and....?" He felt a pair of eyes on him (Jinki's, if you don't know. Since his very loyal best friend had his eyes on Jinki, probably feasting themselves on the perfectness and the shiny-ness. Traitor.)

"Kim Jonghyun, but you don't really need to know," Jonghyun gave an assured grin as Jinki smiled at him in acknowledgement. "Well, I'm just gonna go now, so you finish whatever business you have with this fine lad over here," he grabbed Kibum's shoulder and pushed him towards Jinki who just nodded at him and smiled once again.

"Oh, okay. Thanks. See you later, then?"

"Yeah, bye Kibum, bye Jinki."

Oh, Kibum owed him a lot now. He thought as he happily walked to his next class, he figured he'd grab an ice cream on the way, since he was already late and he didn't ha the chance to eat his pasta (not like he would, anyways).

---

Regret.

That was Jonghyun's immediate thought as he found himself having a high definition view of a very intimate, very touchy make-out session a few weeks after the 'pasta-scene' with his best friend.

It turned out that Jinki had something of Kibum's possesion that he dropped when he was busy stalking Jinki when he was at the library. It had Kibum's name on it and Jinki noticed him at the cafeteria that time, but as he was going to talk to Kibum, the latter figured out that it was better to dump pasta on his head over talking with Jinki.

Jinki also noticed him some time ago, taking interest but not really confronting him. Well, until the 'fortunate unfortunate dumping-of-pasta on the head' happened.

What a very fine turnabout of events. Not.

As soon as lunch came and they were already at their table, Jinki arrived and Kibum had cutely pouted, "lips please." to which Jinki happily obliged. Thus became the unfortunate event Jonghyun was witnessing. He already became bored after a few minutes that he started playing with his 'lame-excuse-for-a-steak' steak.

Well, at least Kibum being with Jinki had one good thing to it.

Jonghyun now had the privilege to shamelessly subtle-flirt with Jinki's ever-so-athletic best friend, Choi Minho.

He grinned as soon as Minho came to their table with his tray of food. He sat next to him, not even bothering to greet the still-very-involved couple, and greeted him with a smile.

He reconsidered dumping steak on his head because maybe Minho would fall head-over-heels with him, just like how Jinki had with Kibum, but not before Minho grumbled, "Want to ditch them?"

'Ah, life sure has its ups and downs.' He nodded and grinned as he let Minho grab his hand and they shot out of the cafeteria room.
