coming up

At 5:35 tomorrow, my freshman year of college will be over. My mom will drive up on Thursday to get my stuff, Patrick and I will catch a concert on Friday night, and yet another Amtrak bus will get me home at 1:40 on Saturday. From there, everything is summer.

I really think this has been my best year in a while. I really needed a change. High school kind of took a toll on me. So many mistakes-turned-learning-experiences, so much miscommunication, and simply too much drama. I'm glad I had the high school experience I did, but you couldn't pay me enough money to do it over again! I love my friends, and I love going back for my sisters, but I also love being done with it.

This year I was finally forced to define myself in terms of me and no one else. Not in terms of my family, not in terms of my friends, not in terms of William, not in terms of ex-boyfriends... And I needed that. I had to figure out how to make new friends, how to get involved, and how to navigate a very intimidating city! Being away from home made me appreciate home a lot more, too. Especially when Molly was in rehab, I was grateful for the closeness of my family.

This summer and the upcoming year will bring some exciting things, too. I'm looking forward to my first job in a nerdy kind of way, but I know it will quickly turn into a mundane routine. This summer I hope to make it to Molalla, OR, and Jerome, ID, to visit some one-of-a-kind college friends. Not to mention a much-needed trek to Corvallis for some Shads-Jake-lovin' and American Dream Pizza. Next year I'll be president of a club, living off campus with William, and seen as "experienced" to the incoming freshmen. I will be more eligible for worthwhile parts. I will get to take even more exciting math classes.

I'm just excited for the future in general!
