So, I started my Winter Diet at the beginning of this month. I am using
Fitday software, which is a sophisticated calorie tracker. After carefully sticking to my 1350kCal/day goal for a week, I was up three pounds.
So I went back to the beginning and this time I figured that my metabolism estimate is wrong. I have been accurate about my calorie intake and my activities, but I am depending on the software to estimate how much I burn. I revised my activity levels way down, and now I'm working on an estimated metabolism of 1435kCal/day. That seems low (especially since I'm really not sedentary for 8-10 hours a day), but at least this number fits the facts. So now I'm trying to stick to a 1200-1300kCal/day diet and bump my metabolism up 200-300 calories with exercise every day.
Fitday says that to meet my Winter Diet weight goal, I need to burn 935 calories more than I take in every day. Uh oh! It looks like my 2-month diet is actually going to have to last 18 months. Ha ha ha! I was optimistic about working hard for 60 days, but I don't know if I can be mistake-free for 18 months. I can try, though. At least now I know why, despite eating sensibly and exercising often, I am always gaining weight.
And I have to concede that Erik was right, I am not the world's first perpetual motion machine, expending more energy that I take in. ;-)
