Tokyo Revelations #3
Yay, Tsubasa OAD number 3! So much awesome and win.
-We start where #2 left off, which remains so damn AWKWARD. Like, what was the point of that? Lame.
- Like the effect with Yuuko. Mokona, the living film projector.
- Waaah, Fai! Loved the voice work here, he sounds so weak and Mokona's so miserable and Kurogane so pissed. The voice work in general was just really awesome in the whole OAV.
-Kurogane shaking with rage ♥ ♥ He's so hot when he's pissed off. (And that whole scene gave me really shippy vibes and I don't know if it really was that shippy or if it's just because I'm MASSIVELY MASSIVELY BIASED. Or both. Anyway.)
-I flove the music. Is it all from the TV series soundtrack, I wonder, and if not, can we have a damn OAD soundtrack? Cause I wants.
-Transformation scene ASJKHALAHFH;; LOVE. Fai ;_; It really looked painful, with his eye wide and he couldn't even scream and damn, now I think I want to write fic.
- The Shinsen Subs version calls Mokona a "he." Minor fail. Not as bad as calling Subaru a girl last OAD, but still. (If Mokona's anything, it's a girl, per Horitsuba.)
-Creepy vampire eye Fai. I love that part. (I love a lot of parts. You might have noticed.)
-Good morning, Sakura. She looks so...royal here, imperial-like. You do not argue with royal Sakura. She's so awesome.
-Kurogane's such a good daddy. I don't give him enough love sometimes, I think.
-Not much with the X characters, which I'm happy about. I can see if some people are disappointed, but we've got limited time and it's not their story.
-Speaking of limited time, I'm kinda torn on whether or not I like the way they had a lot of the dailogue played over Sakura's action. On the one hand, I would've liked to see some for the expressions everyone was making while they talked, but on the other it was a good way to fit everything in without having to sacrifice the important parts.
-Syaoran really doesn't do much in this part, does he? Poor guy. Though from this point until the end of Celes, it really is more Sakura and Fai's story, as they were the most effected by the events of Tokyo. He gets the spotlight back eventually anyway (and that may be why I like Tokyo through Celes so much. I don't hate Syaoran but he is my least favorite out of the group, so I don't mind too much that we get some Sakura focus and some good Fai time for a bit.)
-Gun-weilding Sakura will fuck your shit up, man. (And she looked sad after she killed the monster, which made me feel so bad for her. Poor Sakura-chan.)
-"Good morning, Kurogane." Always one of my favorite lines. Kurogane's momentarily shocked face was lovely too. Squeeeeee.
-Sakura getting all beat up and the thing through her leg was just...GAH. Just as hard to watch as it was to read. Sakura shouldn't get hurt like that ;_;
-I mentioned the voice-acting before, but still. I love Fai's voice throughout this whole OAD. Daisuke Namikawa really did a great job. The contrast between pre-Tokyo and post-Tokyo Fai is clear with every word.
-Another Thing I Love: when Yuuko tells Fai that Sakura is outside and we see him look all shocked like in the manga and then he looks towards where Kurogane is with this face of Totally Pissed. You can just hear him thinking "Kurogane, you bastard, how could you let her go?" Oh yes.
-Sakura retrieving the egg: the animation wasn't as pretty as the manga chapter, but the voice-acting, again, was wonderful. First time I've ever really liked Sakura's voice, and she keeps it up for the rest of the OAD.
-Oh, my beautuful, beautiful, bitter, pissed-off Fai. If anyone ever doubted that Fai was the seme, his expression when he first walks over to Kurogane and Syaoran should erase all doubt. LOVE. (Also, a weird hang-up of mine even in the manga: where are his shoes? He has them when he loses the eye, then they're gone when he's on the bed. It just seems so weird to me that with everything else and he's dying and all, and they take off his shoes. I don't know why I focus on this, but I do.)
-So much of Fai's lines in this series are more interesting in retrospect, and his one about Sakura not being able to return if she's killed is one of those. When did he realize that (and presumably give up on his true wish), I wonder? In Shurano, or even earlier? After all, Chunyan even says it, way back in Koryo.
-CCS Sakura! That was both WTF-worthy and cool. So, is that the ghost of the Sakura of this world, or something else? I like to think that, back in her Japan, CCS Sakura wakes up wishing for the girl she saw in her dream to surely be all right.
-More vampire eye! There is not enough Fai with the creepy vampire eye. I like how we see it change back when Syaoran talks him down.
-Aw, Sakura/Fai hug. ::sniffle:: So damn sad. I love them.
-Yuukosposition time. Another scene interesting in retrospect. She's only telling them things Fai already knows, even if no one else is aware.
-Boo, no Fai flashback scene. I suppose to save time, and to avoid teasing things that may never be animated (please please animate them).
-Sakura touching Fai's hand was so cute. Love her. Love love love. And then hand-kissing. They're so sweet together. I never get why some KuroFai fans go into frothing rage whenever they're adorable like that -- you can love someone without wanting to jump them, people.
-My one itty complaint at the end: Sakura doesn't seem to be limping. I suppose it's hard to tell since we don't see her feet, but she doesn't look like she is.
-I wonder about the title of this one. It seems to be referencing CCS Sakura, but prior to seeing it everyone assumed it meant the dream Sakura saw when she touched Fai, which isn't mentioned here at all. Planned screwing with the fans heads, or changes made to save that dream for an animated Infinity follow-up? Crossing fingers for the latter.
