Before I start talking about my day yesterday, I have to wish Kara a happy 18th Birthday. Happy Birthday, Kara!
Ok. Now about my day yesterday. WARPED TOUR!!!! WHOOOO!!!!!! |--|- -|--| It was such a great day. Jack and I woke up at 9, took showers, and left the house by 10. We stopped off at someone's house to see what's going on w/ Jack's return trip tomorrow. We got to the Tweeter Center, and everything all of a sudden changed. We weren't expecting to have to pay service charges @ the box office the day of the show, but we were reamed and they did. The music industry is going to collapse on itself before they realize what the fuck they've been doing. Anyway, we got our tickets and got in line. I had read that Warped started at noon and gates open at 11, but when we got there, we found out that it started at 1 and gates opened at noon. We slowly watched the line snake around two or three times before the gate opened. We ran into Kara and Little People before they got tickets, and they joined us in line. A little bit before the gates opened, some chick came up to us asking if she could cut in line for $10. We agreed of course. After we got in, we waited for Kara and Lil' Ppl, but they had gone off to the New Found Glory tent and got their stuff. We all went to the Drive-Thru stage and watched some really shitty band try to get the crowd into their music but were unsuccessful. Kara and Lil' Ppl went off to find the main stages, and that was the last we saw of them. We went off to the main stages for ourselves and checked out No Use For a Name. They were awesome. We got there just to get right by the rail for Good Charlotte. I've seen them once before, but I was a ways back at the House Of Blues. The whole time, it was a constant shoving match, and people were getting crushed a lot. Good Charlotte wasn't even that great today. It might be because they were playing with a drummer for the first time for an audience. That can do things to a band. I lost jack in the pit, and I spent a couple of hours looking for him. I went over to the Drive-Thru stage and found my friend Laura and her friend Ruth. They were going over to see Allister, and I enjoyed what part of their set I saw. I caught part of Finch's set as well, and they were good as well. I decided that maybe I could go see the Might Mighty Bosstones and hopefully find Jack. I didn't find Jack, but I ran into Dustin from my English class that helped me up to crowd surf. IT was my first time crowd surfing, and it was absolutely great! I got dropped, but it wasn't too bad. I landed on my feet. I landed right in the pit, and the guy asked me if I wanted a lift back up, but I decided to stick it out in the pit. Everyone I have talked to have told me how great the pits for the Bosstones are, and they were right. It was a happy combination of a lot of pop-punkers, ska fans, and hardcore punks that were there to enjoy their kick-ass set. I ran around and checked out some of Reel Big Fish's set, and they were fuckin' great. Just what I was expecting I eventually found Jack and we went off to see a bunch of bands in succession. We went to see Something Corporate, MxPx, Lagwagon, and Flogging Molly. Something Corporate somewhat disappointed me, but that was probably because I was so far away and really wasn't able to get into it much. I can't wait to see them in a club in October or November. Ashley, you better be able to get me in. MxPx was next, and they were nothing short of awesome. Lagwagon was next, and they also kicked ass. They played some of my favorite songs ("Violins," "Mr. Coffee," and "Bombs Away"), but they didn't play "Sleep." I was bummed. I moved over a little bit to see Flogging Molly, and they were great from the start when they came out on stage and said "How are you doing, you bunch of fuckin' drunks" in a heavy Irish accent. They put on a set that was totally different from anything else at Warped Tour that day, but they had one of the largest crowds and put on a great show. Alkaline Trio was next, and they were all right. I wasn't too impressed. New Found Glory was next, and they weren't that great. Not only that, but they ran late and ran into NOFX's time. Everyone waiting to see NOFX was getting really pissed off, and Fat Mike was getting pissed as well. Then to top everything off, New Found Glory introduced them as No Use for a Name, and that didn't go over well. NOFX was kinda disappointing, but they were good either way. I was going to stay for Bad Religion, but I wasn't really in the mood.
Jack and I came home and watched Election and crashed. It was a great day. I can't wait till next year. The only thing I'm going to do differently is establish meeting points in case groups get separated and bring my own water. That was a reaming experience.
Ashley, I'm glad that you and Lauren met MxPx and Good Charlotte. I wished that I would've ran into you, but it's all right. I can't wait to see both of you again. Ashley has me hooked on "Konstantine" by Something Corporate." Thanks.
