As the Thunder Rolls Out

We were helpless but to sit and wait for her to pass, like a violent storm in the blackest of nights. And even though the rumbling was distant and the lightning unable to reach our shelter, there was the quaking of fear deep in our hearts... for humans perhaps fear most that which they are unsure about. Could we only see into her head, past those ( Read more... )

Oi, are you always like this?

Of course. A man must never be more or less than himself.

A man? Don't make me laugh.

Hey, that helmet... thing. What is it? Did you modify yourself?

Oh, this? I merely wear it as all men do-- a mask, whether on their faces or over their hearts. We rarely make them, but must bear their weight nonetheless.

... A mask over our hearts? ... Whatever! That's just cryptic talk!

Does it do anything? Shoot lasers? Scan humans? X-Ray through clothing?

Of course it does something. But shoot lasers? Ha...! Ha, ha ha, that's a good one... Want to test it sometime?

Ha ha, is that an invitation to be your test subject?

Only if you're volunteering.

I don't think it shoots lasers. Nor does it make toast, since that's always the second thing people ask.

I'm curious, but I don't know if I'm that damn curious. You humans are capable of strange things.

... That's boring.

Sorry. It's really only interesting if you're the one wearing it, I'm afraid. It's quite personal for me.

What, like glasses?

Actually yes. Quite a bit like glasses.

...Heeeey! That's not fair! How did you get glasses like that? Was my old man really a cheap bastard...

Ha...! I didn't ask for them, amigo-- they're oversized and a bit of a pain. I'd gladly trade you, as I'd prefer ordinary glasses. Unfortunately, I need a bit too strong a prescription for them.

A man always longs to see through the eyes of another, doesn't he? Ha...! That's a good rule. I'll have to add it to mine.

Hmph... they still look cooler.

Oi! Don't use me to make cryptic messages for you!

All the world is my easel and my metaphors the paint. Hey, that's another good one... gracias.
