“I’m so tired,” Yixing whispers to Jongin, when they’re both lying in bed huddled together one night. “Jongin-ah, I’m so tired.”
Jongin stills. Yixing’s always tried to hide his exhaustion, or pain, he goes to practice surviving on barely an hour of sleep and smiles through it, brushes off their concern when they comment on the bags under his eyes, so for him to openly admit it this way, Jongin knows it’s bad. He slides a hand up to Yixing’s bicep, massaging carefully.
“Sleep, then,” he says. “Go to sleep hyung.”
“I’m so tired. I’m really-this is, this is so tiring.”
“I know, hyung,” is all he can say, heart hurting upon hearing how vulnerable Yixing sounds. Like a man stretched to his limit, like someone who simply wants to rest. “I know, just, close your eyes, okay? Go to sleep.”
“Tired,” Yixing mumbles again, and Jongin shushes him gently.
Yixing’s taking laboured breaths, and his grip on Jongin is tight, as if he’s clutching onto a lifeline. Jongin pets him softly, running his hand through Yixing’s hair, down his back, anywhere, trying as much as he can to impart some form of comfort. He wants to hold, to protect.
“Sorry,” Yixing says guiltily, even though he relaxes with Jongin’s administrations. “I know you’re tired too.”
“No apologies,” Jongin admonishes gently. “None of that. I’m here for you hyung.”
Yixing noses his collarbone sleepily, and whispers something in mandarin that Jongin can’t quite catch.
“What?”
“Never mind. You’ll sleep too, Jongin? We’ve got an early morning tomorrow.”
“Yeah, don’t worry about me hyung. Close your eyes.”
Yixing does, and instinctively, Jongin pulls him closer and wraps an arm around his shoulders. He stays awake until Yixing’s breathing deepens out, then pushes a kiss to his temple, and drifts off.
