As mentioned in my first GenCon post, I ran D20 Mars at GenCon last year, and was hoping to run something Planetary Romance like this year at GenCon. I was hoping to use an adaptation of Spirit of the Century to do this.

At its simplest level, it seems like this should be a fairly straightforward conversion. After all, Planetary Romance is part of ( Read more... )

Ah, maps! In Giants and Ganakagok, you sit down at the table and collectively go around the table, with everyone adding a feature to a blank page to create a map. In Ganakagok, there are some set, central map places that the GM puts in, and the players add to that, going around the table and putting in cool names and little drawings (for example, we had the Spears of the Forgotten Ones - a taboo area of spiky, spiky rocks). In addition, the GM adds stuff to the map as the player's backstory and connections spring up. So if I had "hates the Uruquat people", the GM or I could put in an Uruquat village on the map. Then, as play progresses, we and the GM flesh out those areas.

Giants is similar, in that each Giant places his "home" on the map, and then a geographical piece or two, like the Forest of Interminable Woe, or the Barrow King's Castle, or the Tervik River or what have you.

Having a focused map making session, where the players create the planet they're on could be cool, but it may not work if you want them to be "new" to it. It will probably make them pretty invested in the setting, though, so they'll really /want/ to go to the places put on the map, giving you that "explorers" feel...

As for time period- going retro-future (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retro-futurism) means you've got a lot of cool images to draw on! For example: http://davidszondy.com/future/futurepast.htm . But I'm not sure if that gives too much of a Rocket Patrol, Space Rangers kinda feel to things...
