So it looks like I may finally get out of security. Tyler has invited me to come up to the rigs with him provided I get into shape and complete the necessary courses. If that happens I'll be gone for 3 months straight after Christmas making money I would otherwise never see in my current profession, if security can be called a profession.
Yesterday we drove up to Red Deer to see all the equipment. I now understand what will be required of me when I go out there and exactly how much work I have to do on my body to make it happen. Now, get all your laughter and gutter-mindedness out before I begin talking about all the big, thick, heavy pipe I was lifting, or attempting to lift... okay, ready? No?
Now? No? Okay...
Now? Oh, for crying out loud...
That's it, I'm going to start despite the distractions.
2" pipe and 3" pipe is easy to lift, though I didn't try to lift the 2" on my own. Tyler says its a matter of balancing it properly. We rolled the 4" pipe onto my shoulder and I held it there for a while to get a feel for its weight. I'm not kidding when I say its like a full grown man standing on one of your shoulders. After a brief rest, we rolled it back onto our shoulders and, under the careful supervision of my lovely girlfriend, began walking toward the back of the unit. I got about ten feet when Ty asked me how I was doing. Answering was a mistake; it took my concentration off of my breathing and that's when my back began to bow. After noticing this I straightened it while we reversed direction and put the pipe back on the truck. To my credit, I don't feel much more sore today than I have from lately from my daily workout but the spot on my shoulder where the pipe was braced is quite tender. Looks like some conditioning be in order.
Anyway, that's my latest news. You guys should post once in a while. Reading LJ is the only excitement I get on mornings that I work and no one has posted in weeks. What's the deal?
