Prompt: 008 I was depending on you
Universe: Original: tevin_rasku
Genre(s): Fantasy, Action/Adventure
Rating: PG
Warnings: Gore.
Words: 1,480

A/N: This is an older prompt, but kabochan's comment to this post made me realize I really should write the scene that comes after it. So...I did. And here it is.

Of course these soldiers were too disorganized to stand their ground against a dragon. )

No wonder Dario lost his throne! He's just a glorified fop! ^_~

Joking aside, I started to get a little more respect for the boy when he didn't immediately attack the dragon. It was very interesting to have his point of view and I could see this scene taking place in a book. From what I know about what happens next, it was a nice transition.

I was unclear on how much interaction Dario may have had with the dragon until this point. If he's seen Tevin with it/him and knows that it's not a danger to Tevin, why would he jump to the conclusion that it went crazy and killed Tevin? Does Tevin have everyone thinking that his dragon is drugged like all the others?

I also assumed that when the dragon spoke to Dario, the princeling received all of his emotional angst. Was that right or was something else going on?

I'm interested in how Dario manages to get Tevin on his side, because I know that eventually he joins all sorts of people to his banner. I am curious to see how you'll grow him up or if he'll remain the glorified fop.

Sorry it took me so long to get around to this. I hadn't forgotten it!

I do like Dario in this scene. He feels relatable - just a normal person, with normal fears and weaknesses and shortcomings - but I'm glad he's smart enough to have figured out it was Tevin and the healers needed to be called. (If Dario were a little more heroic, I imagine he'd be waiting outside the healers' tents, probably pacing, waiting for word on Tevin's condition, instead of going back to his own tent. :P)

Btw, how old is Dario? I can't remember if I had a sense for his age from the other scenes I've read.

I'm glad that Teoti gets Tevin back to camp and he's getting help. So they were all scared of the dragon, but not enough to let it ultimately get in the way of necessity. I'm glad they didn't shoot him down or anything.

I'm glad Dario is developing so well and that he seems real to people. I always worry that my characters are too uber!powerful or weepy or whatever. Though I have far more worries about the former ( ... )
