In short, my absence for the last ~two weeks can be explained by lots of BBQs to attend, picture taking and Stargate SG1 watching. I honestly forgot about LJ until a few days ago, lol.
The Cut on Purgatory was 80% done when I unexpectedly abandoned it ... It's still 80% done. There's a dinner party to attend tonight, as well as 2.5 seasons left of Stargate to watch, so I don't know when I'll be getting to it.
Speaking of Stargate ... Let's talk Sam/Jack, shall we? There's such great potential for extreme angst between these two. It's not really explored as much as it could have been on the show (of what I've seen so far), which is a tad disappointing. I thought they'd be more like Olivia/Elliot in that regard, but at the same time I'm glad the humour and easy conversations are still there. The awkwardness is great too! I love the side glances they constantly shoot each other ^^
In terms of fic,
Down Here Among the Wreckage is one of those WOW fics where the concept is pure BRILLIANCE. Seriously. I love the direction the author takes the characters; the way they've been broken down into a darker and twisted version of themselves. Even Daniel. Jack's character, especially, is so incredibly complex in this fic. The struggle within himself, the confusion of his and Anhur's thoughts concerning Carter is so ... painful to read. And, I don't think that's a reaction I've ever had before to any story. At the same time, I'm in awe of it. And I love the place it's left them: complete annihilation of not only the trust between them also of their characters. I love that they're not purely good because that is SO unrealistic. I love Jack's doubts about himself. He knows he's changed for the worst, that things can never go back to what they once were. Sam knows it too. I love that she doesn't completely trust him, stays at a distance at all times. What I love most of all though is they're not all We love each other so we can get through this and anything else to come our way and then they get married and have ten kids. Stuff like that is complete bull. There is that unspoken bond between them still, but it's viewed with contempt now. Things aren't working out between the two and I love that because they're not supposed to be working out. Everyone is capable of doing something ... dark and I love that this fic explores that.
We need more fics like this in any fandom. It's definitely not for the weak of heart.
