I was once told that the best way to cure a hangover
was to lock myself into a room with no windows
to turn off any source of light
and to listen to myself breathe.

if patience weren't a virtue it would surely be a sin
hanging onto your every word, a eulogy wasn't enough

usurp the status quo ante with something even more banal
it is the folly of youth to presume otherwise

let slip these dogs of washed up misfortune
cliche becomes an unflinching axiom
