Spending money in a time of economic uncertainty

I have almost ALMOST been like a drunk sailor ALMOST.

I finally purchased my Ashford Kiwi spinning wheel.. for beginners.

I have been looking at learning how to spin for a year and a half now.... and looked into the Weavers Guild about renting a wheel.. but you have to jump through hoops and the schedule never worked out for me... and then a friend had  wheel that she was going to loan me and it was broken and we spent all night trying to fix it... to no avail...

and so I kept wantng to spin and spin.. and learn dammit.. so now.. On the verge of the end of the world.. I went ahead and just bought one from California... it should get here in week...

I went ahead and got it finished.. I was going to get an unfinished one but the guy said the wood gets grungy really quick and is subject to warping...

I also purchsed some more food at Whole Foods.  I ton of EMERGEN C.. cause I was feeling a bit under the weather and theis proteien powder super food... a 15 day supply.. which was really expensive.. but tasted good..

I am focusing on my health right now.. taking care of my body and making sure I eat well and get lots of rest and my stress levels go down.

Next I need to get a Yoga routine down... and excercise some more.

I know.. why did I get a spinning wheel?  Well.. .. #1.. Everytime I talk to a spinner they say it is addicting.  I know of knitters that spin and knitting is really a peaceful hobby... I haven't done much this summery.. BUT I LOVE knitting.. I have a pair of socks I made PLUS I have two on the needles... it is really a nice hobby...  It calms me and I love the challenge.

Spinning seems to be the same way.  THe relaxing rythem of the treadle.. and feeling the fibers int between your fingers...   It is very meditative and you make something at the end...   I have two drop spindles but I am not coordinated enough to keep the spin consistant on them... it was frustrating.

#2... WHen our economy goes to shit.. If I can spin whool... I can be productive... I can make fiber to selll...

I was born in 68... and so little girls didn't learn old fashioned arts like that becuase it was post feminist.. girls were now to grow up and become CEO's and empowered women.. not home makers... so I missed out on USEFUL skills such as sewing and knitting and spinning.  I barely know how to cook...  I can do it.. but not my first skill.  I rely on my microwave way too much.

I think women are in a better place now.. but I still regret not having learned to do those things.  ...

They just are useful.  WE have a society now that doesn't know how to make ANYTHING.. some folks do.. but a lot /most don't..  We can't even fix things anymore....

When things break.. we are screwed.  When computers go down... we are screwed...

sigh....

Well.. later
