I went to an amazing election party last night in Brooklyn and once the results were known everyone poured out onto the streets to celebrate. We blocked traffic, but in a friendly way. When the drivers honked their horns for Obama they were given high-fives by the crowd as they slowly drove through us. The police came by, took a look, and kept right on going. The garbage truck came by and honked for Obama. It was amazing.
This morning I read
this essay by Anna Quindlen which is a beautiful summary of this historic moment.
Congratulations America! We've begun to return to the ideals upon which our nation was formed.
