You're right, he definitely edited it (or that's how Media Matters makes it sound... they're an advocacy group, just like Limbaugh, so we can say one of them edited the footage, but it's hard to tell, at the moment, which one of them it is). However, even the edited track is damning to Media Matters. It's clear, by the tape he has, that he was referring to the Scott Beauchamps, and the Jessie MacBeths. At the very beginning, he talks about the "one convicted, lying, fake soldier."
The morning update that he puts in there shows that Jessie MacBeth and his type have been a topic on Rush's show (the morning updates get wrapped into that day's show, though it isn't usually indicated as such). In other words, it goes into the background that he assumes we know in listening to him. Sorry, but there's no broad-brush slander. It's like the Easter Bunny.
As an afterthought... the beeps, though, have me a bit confused. Limbaugh's show does not use beeps for transitions or to set apart "prior audio." They are either added into the tape by Media Matters, or show where Media Matters edited or spliced the tape.
An after afterthought... Ok, playing the two side-by-side, it definitely sounds like Rush trimmed it. Yes, shame on him, especially when he said it was "in its entirety." But, you know, he should have left it. It was even more damning (though a bit less concise) to Media Matters than what he should he did say. Still, he didn't make the smear that Media Matters says he did. Media Matters did NOT get it right. Even their tape shows it.
