It is time for me to reevaluate my use of this piece of trash website.

Whether I'm mad at it or not, it's high time I reevaluated my use of LJ, not because of what it has done to me, but what it has not done for me. I don't gain anything by writing in my LiveJournal, except the occasional drama that I don't need. The very principle of securitizing entries, whether to a subset of LJ users or even just to registered LJ users, seems like a throwback to better days you recently described on here, days of LJ that I was too late in joining to ever have experienced. So, it's not that it has particularly done something against me. It's that it has done nothing for me.

I think a policy that might suit me better is an all-or-nothing policy: make my entries either public or private. I don't want to write anything for others to read on here that I wouldn't want just anyone to read. If I want anyone to be able to read something, I want to be proud of it and make it defensible enough that I can stand by it without worrying about the repercussions of broadcasting rawer emotions. I took all my old entries and privatized them because, while I benefit from rereading them every now and again, they are an undue vulnerability and too subject to the whimsy of misapprehension.

Obviously, I'm not getting rid of my account. I do like it as an aggregator, i.e., I enjoy reading others' posts and commenting. But openness behind closed doors has not served me.
