There are two explanations as to why I am not working in the art industry. For one, I believe that "art" and "industry" are not compatible in my mind... inspiration is a fickle thing that comes and goes, and while I enjoy art a lot as a hobby, an artsy job would most certainly kill whatever inspiration I have.
Plus, I can't work with stuff that doesn't "spark" with me. I don't do deadlines, and I fail at commission pieces. And if the finished piece touches me (which is a sign of quality for me) then I am incapable of parting with it. All of which make it impossible for me to ever work successfully in that field.
And then there's the rational part of my brain that keeps telling me it's wiser to have a job that pays for the roof over my head, the food in my fridge, and the art supplies I need ~ rather than having to worry about rent, food AND the next illustration job.
(Luckily, medicine fascinates me and provides me with said job without becoming a mere necessity for me.)
