Nellas of Doriath is a canon character in Tolkien's world. Not much is known about her, except that she lived "lived in the woods near Menegroth. At the bidding of Melian, she became the friend and tutor of Túrin during his boyhood years in Doriath. It was from Nellas' teaching that Túrin gained the Elf-like bearing and knowledge of Sindarin that led the people of Nargothrond to give him the name Adanedhel, 'Elf-Man'. After Túrin's accidental slaying of Saeros, it was Nellas' account that earned him the forgiveness of the King (though he did not know this, having already exiled himself from the Hidden Kingdom)."

I chose it because when I first decided to play in the LotR slash fandom, I wanted a fitting screenname that had a history I could hide behind without having to worry about making one up.
I remember googling the name and not finding much, thus deciding that "Nellas" would do just fine for my purposes.
I guess it's taken a life of its own by now, though.
Now, it has become a familiar and comfortable alter ego that I use to play online. Most people know me by this nom de plume, so I won't change it. I still like that little Elf from Doriath, and her dwelling near Menegroth. :)
What would you change your name to, if you were changing it?
I'm currently looking for a username that I will be able to use when LotR is not on my mind anymore, for original art and other purposes that require a bit of privacy (like the net world). But I have no idea what I want it to be, so I'll have to keep looking...
What is your favorite username? Why?
My own? I just have this one - and it's not likely to change anytime soon. Too many people know my by Nellas, so Nellas it is until I leave the fandom behind.
Others? Well, I admire people who are creative and/or use original names for themselves. That allows them to give their character an original history. But to choose one... impossible.
