Last Friday, as Becky was putting Gabe's "boom-boom" vest on (to help clear his lungs), she poked him in the eye. Oops.
An hour later, he was still clutching his face and screaming. *fwoosh* to the ER.
"Severe Corneal Abrasion" Eyedrops for several days. It was decided he wouldn't tolerate a patch over the eye, so a weekend of darkened rooms was called for. He spent most of the weekend curled up whimpering, even after tylenol/advil doses. [A topical on the eye would have greatly slowed the healing and increased the infection risk] Poor kid. Poor mom, too--his sleep (and therefore hers, since he won't stay out of our bed) was very fitful. I slept downstairs.
Today he still looks like an abuse case from the swelling/bruising around the eye, but his behavior is back to normal. The 3x/day antibacterial eyedrops no longer burn him, so things must have cleared up.
Poor kid. :( We've avoided permanent damage, though, so he's got that going for him.
ouch,
