last friday, i saw a 60s anti-vietnam war documentary at the film archives, which left me feeling ill and wondering why so little has changed with regard to foreign policy. ("we could keep fighting this war for ten years, twenty years, thirty years, and who would stop it?" what's in our "national interest" is the same now as it was then. politicians spouted the same arguments for vietnam as for iraq, 40 years later.) on saturday, it was brunch in mcgolrick park and getting gussied up for a wedding reception turned cocktail party on the upper west side. i wore a nice dress and spent the evening drinking fine wine and gazing at puppet/marionette-adorned walls (crafted by the hostess/aunt, who recently took interest in adult puppet theater), meeting brian's old friends and trying to summon the often dormant social butterfly within. later, tasty burgers and soup (with extra bacon!) in williamsburg, getting lost in the dregs of bushwick, late night cab home. on sunday, brunch at the adored b's luncheonette in greenpoint, run by a sweet, feisty old greek couple who've only closed shop once in the past 47 years, and whose dining prices haven't inflated a bit with time. poking around overpriced boutiques, playing ping pong in the back of a deserted bar, drinking bloody marys and providing colorful commentary for a bike race seen from another bar window. back to astoria, grocery shopping, arguing with brian about "gray" vs. "grey", and bed.

this week brought the start of a salary, a potential new roommate for the fall, work stress, a long-overdue cold, and a booked trip to michigan in july. tonight, i spent an hour scrubbing mold and soap scum from the shower. oh, life.
