Yesterday was mild and sometimes sunny so I visited Moccas Park. This is a National Nature Reserve about 22km from my home. It is famous for its ancient trees and the insects associated with them.
There are many fungi here too, and the most of the rare species but prefer to grow in the soil rather than dead/decaying timber, many are small and can only be identified reliably by experts.
"The Parasol Mushroom" (Macrolepiota procera (Scop. ex Fr.)) a common autumn fungus, edible when fresh, here growing in grass under sweet chestnut tree
Growing inside a dead rotting, but still standing, oak tree. Species of genus Mycena.
This morning temperature was -3C.
